📷 In Shadow & Light #81, we journey to the remote Altai mountains through intimate documentary work, explore the Moon through an extraordinary large-scale photographic project, and step inside a long-standing creative partnership with Prince. We also look at the intersection of sculpture and photography through bold abstract forms. From deeply human storytelling to ambitious technical exploration and playful visual experimentation, this month’s selection highlights photography’s remarkable range and creative potential.

Northumberland in monochrome.
Textures, light, and layers – from Budle Bay to Holy Island. Gulls filling the sky, rock formations weathered by time, and Lindisfarne Castle standing proud against the horizon.

I’ve been hugely lucky to have had the opportunity to work with some fantastic families again this year.
I always really enjoy looking back on the images I’ve captured during the year, so as 2025 draws to a close I wanted to take the opportunity to take a look back at some of my favourite shots from family shoots this year.

NEW ON THE BLOG
One of the joys of our recent trip to Northumberland was travelling light with just the Fujifilm X100VI.
I’ll admit, leaving the “proper” kit at home is always makes me a bit itchy, but this little camera continues to surprise and delight me. Compact, tactile and film-like, it encourages a slower pace, perfect for both capturing big coastal landscapes and the quieter family moments in between.
Along with my drone in the bag for the aerial views, it was the ideal lightweight setup. I’ve shared the full story and images in a new blog post, hope you like it!

Golden hour magic at Bamburgh Castle
The warm evening light made every detail sing - from the historic windmill and clock tower to the gentle tide rolling over the beach. Luckily we were based 5 minutes from the castle so were able to make an impromptu trip to catch the light.

Over on the blog you can read about my recent commission for Gaucho Liverpool, capturing their illuminated Christmas installations inside and out.
I planned the shoot to move from golden hour through dusk and into night, which gave us a beautiful range of lighting to work with - from warm ambient tones to the full festive glow once the sun had gone. I also brought the drone along to capture some aerial views of the exterior installation, which really helped show the space in a different way.
It was a lovely project to kick off the festive season.

Seahouses Harbour has such a unique charm – vibrant boats, the smell of the sea, and the soft afternoon light bouncing across the water. This little triptych captures a slice of that calm, working-harbour feel that makes Northumberland so special.
Shot on the Fujifilm X100VI.
Bamburgh Castle at sunset is spectacular from every perspective, whether flying above with the drone, standing on the beach, or even through the joy of exploring tide pools in the warm evening light. These are the moments that stick with you long after the trip is over.
Shot on Fujifilm X100VI and DJI Mini 3 Pro.
I’ve just shared a new blog post featuring highlights from a recent family shoot at the beautiful Newmillerdam Country Park. Natural moments, real connections, and a stunning woodland setting made this one special.
