Simon Fowler
Lecturer in Programming Language Foundations at the University of Glasgow.
It was the Functional Programming exam today. I went to the room to make sure everything was OK and to wish the students good luck. Upon entering the room, invigilator dutifully ushered me to a seat to take the exam…
Just finished putting the final touches on the last lecture in my PL course, a total rewrite that started last year. Didn’t expect to feel such a sense of accomplishment as I uploaded the last slides to Moodle. I am very happy with the course now but BOY has it taken some work!
Luca Padovani, Simon Gay, and I recently wrote a book chapter intended as a tutorial introduction to Mailbox Types.
The chapter is in the final phases of the review process (although we are waiting on final confirmation of acceptance), so I've put a draft on my website: https://simonjf.com/drafts/mb-behapi-draft-jan26.pdf
Possibly one of my least favourite tasks as an academic: getting a paper back to the page limit after adding the ACM guff and removing the space hacks 😐
I quite like this picture I took a while ago. It’s actually the street sign for a beautiful and affluent street next to Cambuslang station, but the sign looks like it could be outside a prison.
I know I'm in a ridiculously privileged situation to be able to moan about this, but work has really felt like **work** recently. Endless marking, paper revisions, reviewing, and admin. It seems that all of the crap tasks have basically bunched together in the last couple of weeks.
Only cool dudes allowed to use this hedge trimmer
That was a depressingly email-heavy morning 🥴
I don't get ill often, thankfully, but I've been struck by an absolute bastard of a bug over the past few days.
