I’m an adult and have been for several decades. Every time someone say “it’s the former”, or “it’s the latter”, or “more the former than the latter”, I have to stop, and think: “Which one is first, former or latter?”
It’s not your problem, it’s mine.
Jean Chrétien, former Prime Minister of Canada at age 92 (the quote is around the 11min mark, but the relevant section begins around 8min30):
“Welcoming people from all over the world, [and] caring for each other, including the weakest in society, is a sign of strength.”
If you enjoy some piece of media (a story, a song, an image), and then find out it was created with AI, is it reasonable to have your enjoyment impacted in retrospect? It sure is.
There’s a tribute album of Smashing Pumpkins covers that has some gems. A few tracks I particularly enjoy:
🍦 Today by YONAKA
🪨 Cherub Rock by Carpenter Brut
🦋 Bullet with Butterfly Wings by Palaye Royale
🌝 Tonight, Tonight by Starbenders

The New York Times Connections game is a good band name generator.
I’d go see Hobo Mosey opening for Octopus Breeze.
Saying “I always review what the AI gives me and I don’t let it write for me” is the new “yes, dentist, I do floss every day.”
@mathowie@xoxo.zone The blog theme looks sharp, but I find it a bit difficult to read the text on the textured background.

@davatron5000 We often talk about the value of "doing things the hard way" at @silverorange (talking more, building consensus & understanding. Takes longer, and is usually worth it.

@davatron5000 Seeing a blog post (yours, in this case @davatron5000) spawn other blog posts is a beautiful thing.
@siracusa@mastodon.social You referenced a cover of U2's bad on https://atp.fm/691 but I couldn't make out the name of the artist. Who was that?
Also, as a fellow not-a-Goose-person person, I recommend their Peter Gabriel cover (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgJq-9qqhtw) or The National cover (#3 on this playlist: https://goosetheband.bandcamp.com/album/2025-08-28-university-of-iowa-iowa-city-ia )
Now, back to the rest of the episode to find out that you talked about all of this already.
I endorse this Countdown Standard proposed by XKCD: https://xkcd.com/3232/
The Modern Day Typographer is impressive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ck-NPqf2c8

@governa@fosstodon.org delightful nostalgia!
It was poisoned a bit by the miserable experience of trying to read the PC Gamer site on a phone. I build websites for a living and I didn’t know a website could crash!
That hot dog, though!
