I know this says low effort, but I mostly make memes on my phone and to get all the texts right in the picture would be pretty hard. So nice job. By the way, I didn't read what it said.

The new law lays the groundwork for Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) technology, which uses GPS and onboard sensors to prevent vehicles from exceeding posted speed limits, to be used by super speeders. This is not a blanket mandate; it focuses on the most dangerous drivers while allowing safe mobility for the general public.

If this like a breathalyzer that only gets installed in some people's cars, or is it going to have to be in all cars?

Number plates are adding a road block to a vehicle that is better for society than a car. We need more ebikes, not less. Put a bike lane next to the ped zone.

Xorg had several proprietary clones, and their software authors described how they chose MIT specifically to spite Richard Stallman who annoyed them, but with the benefit of hindsight they conceded that he had been right about the licenses. I saw this in a talk on YouTube somewhere.

Also local chipotles vary widely in quality and some are pretty good food and portions for the cost. Unfortunately don’t feel like supporting them now that they do business with Palantir

Thank you so much for this. <3 I didn’t understand the mint dev’s Claude applet at first glance, so here’s a description in case it helps anybody: Claude Usage Monitor A Cinnamon panel applet that displays Claude API usage limits (5-hour and 7-day) by polling the Anthropic API endpoint.

Research shows that cars overtake you more closely when you wear a helmet, and pass more safely when you don't Researcher also has free (speech and beer) schematics for making your own sensor and replicating the experiment. Have you heard of this concept? Does it ring true for you? Do you live somewhere where cars pass you dangerously? Wear a helmet or don’t, but either way, society is responsible for making bicycling safer, and encouraging more people to take a bicycle over a car trip. Mandatory helmet laws reduce the number of people cycling, and the safety in numbers factor.

[Meta] Why do multiple accounts keep trying to post "We need a list of privacy-respecting products..." Is it a bot network, or disgruntled user with many alts? Sorry if this is the wrong way/place to ask. I saw it on All and it was removed when I clicked so I was curious.

Image comments on Lemmy blahaj but not piefed? Works on other piefeds When i try to paste an image into a piefed comment on blorp, i get a http 400 error (bad request) I can post the same image into a lemmy comment and it works fine. Is this a intended behavior, a problem with piefed, or a problem with blorp? One wrinkle, i can usually copy entire articles, including images, and paste these as comments in piefed. Turns out i was misremembering and this still fails. Actually it did work once with the Wikipedia fediverse article, but failed the lego 404 article. I will post some test comments below from piefed blahaj, Lemmy blahaj, and retrofed (piefed). Please let me know if you have any insights or anything else to try. NEW INFO: testing on Summt vs Blorp reveals: quota exceeded.

"Taking a statement out of context." The context was the robbery that occurred, and blue-hair as an identifier for the robber. Now if in this hypothetical, blue-hair was a slur, Bob ~~Mike~~ is not doing himself any favors.

I don’t know if it would win or not. But the cops could argue that you put that piece of paper as a premeditated trap designed to wipe evidence and interfere with their investigation, if they caught you. Especially if you wrote any of that down and they found it. Honestly I’m not sure what the jury would agree with in this country.

Are there daytime bats? I know that normal nocturnal bats can be seen flying at daytime sometimes during rare circumstances. But are there any flying mammals that have evolved to fly around during the day? Or have they all just decided not to compete with the birds in this regard?

Federation trouble? Help requested. Blocking Hello, I’m not seeing OP’s responses on a thread, but i can see them in an alt piefed.blahaj.zone account. But i realized it was because i have blocked OP previously. So my question is, if I have blocked them, why can i read their post? Is there something wrong with my account? I suppose the first troubleshooting step is to find a desktop computer and see if using a different client other than Blorp is any different? Anyone have insight into what is going on? Thank you

Not sure why the economics dont make sense for businesses, I guess the new junk is cheaper to assemble and sell efficiently than the labor and logistics it costs to refurbish used bikes for sale. But in many big cities, you can find a "bike place" staffed primarily with volunteers that reconditions and sells used bikes at reasonable prices.

I watch a lot of airplane youtube, and this just seems to be wrong. During critical phases of flight, i.e landing and descending, the pilots have a high workload even with the autopilot. They are directing the autopilot ( which isn’t obvious how to do), they’re communicating, navigating, etc. Flight crews of the 20th century sometimes had crews of 3 or 4 people to handle all the tasks that are more automated these days. We don’t have dedicated flight engineers or navigators any more – the pilots do these jobs now too. During the cruise phase of flight, yes the pilots have a lower workload because of the autopilot. But on lots of flights, there might not be much of a cruise at all – they climb, and then descend. I don’t know how much commercial pilots are required to hand fly the plane, but it is a high workload even with the automation – the automation just helps them do a better job.

How much did you pay? I spent $70 on a “new” Aisurix amd radeon 580 2048 SP graphics card earlier this year, but it was a sidegrade more than an upgrade to the Nvidia GTX 980 i had before (which had declining Linux support). Modern graphics cards seem to be very expensive compared to how much it used to cost to be a few years behind the cutting edge.

I read the last article, here’s what stood out to me: the importance of stating the consequence in advance, and the importance of there being a logical connection between the “crime and punishment,” so to speak. in addition to making sure your child is old enough to understand this type of consequence, a crucial part of using the tactic of taking something away is that parents should clearly state the punishment upfront. “The important piece of this approach to discipline is to establish these consequences in advance (i.e. ‘if you don’t clean up your room, you will lose the ability to play with your LEGOs tonight’). As a reactive form of punishment, taking away privileges seems random and fails to establish the connection between a behavior and a consequence,” Fox notes. “When set up in advance, it gives the child a choice — if they don’t make their bed, they are choosing to not be allowed to play with their LEGOs. The sooner we set up this sense of accountability, the less discipline we’ll have to do over the long term.” Another consideration that experts say can be made in addition to making sure the consequence is outlined ahead of time, is that your child can make the appropriate connection between their actions and the punishment. “It’s very important for parents to make a connection between the behavior and what is being taken away, particularly as a child gets older. For instance, if they fail to obey rules around devices or video games, it makes sense to take those away as punishment,” Fox tells Romper. “On the other hand, if they can’t be nice to their sister, they don’t get to spend time with their friends — this sends the message that if they can’t be nice to this person, they don’t get to hang out with that person. As parents, you have to make the connection to the consequence for the child because their brain just doesn’t yet work that way.” Re: the logical consequence, from my own childhood, in elementary school my teachers and parents came up with a behavioral contract where, if i didn’t do my homework, i couldn’t play with my friends after school. Since i couldn’t fathom ever being able to finish my homework, i just accepted the fact that i couldn’t be friends anymore with my friends. I don’t think that worked long term.

only recourse is to move one’s account to another place in hopes of finding more benevolent admins and more protective content moderation. Being able to move one’s account to another place within Mastodon is usually praised as a feature. When it comes to digital safety however, it is not. It relegates minorities to a digital life on the run, hoping for safety in a system that has no mechanism to actually enforce it. Maybe some day we’ll come up with a technical solution that allows communities to group-administer fediverse servers, but until then, most of us are depending on the goodwill of server admins who let their users access services for free, and do all the work of maintaining the server. Being able to vote with your feet and create your own server seems so different than a “digital life on the run”. The idea of a fediverse alliance where admins group together and create a community between instances is a good one though. There is a start to that with stuff like fediblock, but it is still mostly in the benevolent dictatorship model of governance, which I think is hard to get around since it is a lot of work to administer a server, even moreso if it were democratically run, and most of us users depend on free access.
