Ever since Claude started to get aggressive with their rate limiting I started experimenting with OpenCode (https://opencode.ai) specifically using MiniMax 2.5 on OpenRouter (https://openrouter.ai/minimax/minimax-m2.5).
It is surprisingly good. It makes me excited for when I can get a Mac Studio Ultra for a reasonable price and load a large model to have everything running local. It might be awhile before that is reasonable though.

@caseyliss@mastodon.social I recently got into selfhosting. I bought a Beelink mini NAS. It has slots for 6 SSDs. You can use 5 for storage and 1 for the operating system. I use TrueNAS, it has been smooth so far.

- smb file mount
It is a bit expensive to install SSDs, but it should fix your write bottleneck.

Is there any website like Geekbench that shows tokens / second an LLM can generate, by machine, model, context, quantization etc?
@thefaj@mastodon.social I thought about this a lot. I just don't see what value Apple is providing to justify 30% of the creator's revenue. If you sign up on mobile Safari Apple doesn't get anything.
I also suspect that no one finds the Patreon app in the app store and signing up to support a creator without first knowing about the creator and Patreon, so Apple isn't providing any value there either.
