Its a simple misunderstanding of words.
An atheist simply does not believe in or worship a god. That is all you get from the word atheist.
As a person who does not believe in or worship a supernatural being. I can believe in lots of things. And still be an atheist. As long as the other things I believe in are not a supernatural being that I worship.
I do not believe in evolution, nor math. Neither are supernatural.
Try to learn about fallacies.
