I saw a headline about our attention spans being a third of what they were in 2004 and I wanted to read it but I got distracted and don’t remember where I saw it
I wish this was a joke
Programmer, twice-a-decade artist, admin/mod for a bunch of Felicia Day and #teamhooman stuff. If a post doesn't make sense I was probably trying and failing to be funny. That describes most of my posts. he/him #shitposter

I’m tired of appeals to common sense. Don’t bother me unless your sense is epic or legendary.
I advise folks to block this guy at 127.0.0.1. He seems to have access to all my data and is a real dick.
My Mavis Beacon score is plummeting

If you’ve never experienced the window rattling resonance of sitting in a hardwood chair on a hardwood floor and farting, buddy, you haven’t lived.
I am a very bad data analyst I think. Or bad at SQL. Or both. Probably both.
Slog through writing a big query, start it running, wait forever, see weird-ass results. Realize I forgot something. Alter query, try again. Even weirder results. Several rounds of that before I throw it all out and start from scratch. Get even differenter wrong results.
Eventually give up and say “I think the data’s fine. Good to ship.” and hope no one asks for specifics.
Neurotypicals be like “I’m gonna go think and do things and function” lol weirdos

You know what I should have done? Gotten hired early in the founding of a prominent startup software company in my 20s that made me fabulously wealthy before the company turned evil so I could retire and tinker on personal projects.
Yeah. I forgot to do that. I really should have done that.
Here’s a reminder that you can buy a tube of premade cookie dough and heat up a few whenever you feel like having fresh hot gooey chocky chip cookies. You’re welcome.
I wish my keepers would put some enrichment opportunities in my enclosure. I wanna play with a box or a pumpkin.
These two fonts are everywhere. Block letters with a worn texture and a brush stroke one. Often accompanied with brush swipe backgrounds or dividers and dense, varied typography.
I've definitely seen the style in AI-generated posters and thumbnails, but I'm wondering if it started out as some super popular template that everybody used and then AI started aping it.
At any rate, every time I see it I'm inclined to mute the creator that used it. Best case, you need to pick better fonts.
A chronological feed of only what you subscribe to is good, but it’s isolating. You miss out on the larger conversation.
An algorithmic feed is nice for discovery but is opaquely controlled by untrustworthy companies with perverse incentives, and they lead to clickbaity content to game the system.
What we lack these days is human curation by people with taste we like.
Software companies publicly humble bragging about how their products are out of control, aren't fully understood, and cause security problems is a marketing trend that shares its genome with yesteryear's Wendy's Twitter
I have a #Lego confession to make.
When I’m building a set, I try to line up the “Lego” logos on the studs to go in consistent directions whenever possible. I don’t fret over doing it perfectly, but if you ran statistics on the orientations in a finished build they’d be way over chance.
Makes it feel like I’m building it “correctly” and makes me slow down and enjoy the process a bit more.
But mostly, I’m just weird.

Yo dawgs welcome back to my channel. Today we're talking about Video Game You Googled because you just needed a quick one-sentence answer to something you're stuck on. But first enjoy this extremely loud butt rock intro, followed by lots of chatting about irrelevant crap that's on my mind, loads and loads of lead up to the thing you want, and then half a second that addresses your question extremely superficially and unhelpfully. Thanks for watching all 58 minutes, see you next time!
[trying to comfort a recent widow] Ya know, there was another pretty cool guy who died at 33...
It’s frustrating to listen to folks discuss “AI” and lumping together such disparate things as narrow, single-purpose models for tasks like industrial vision systems that identify flaws in manufacturing or protein folding with the more recent, popular, general purpose generative models in LLMs and image generators.
It’s like lumping squirt guns and ICBMs in the same discussion about weapons.
The more technology progresses the more I want to learn how to design an SR-71 using only a slide rule
Been feeling utterly brain dead the past few weeks. Took some extended time off to rest with only marginal benefit. Came back to work even worse. Brain just operating on 1mw of power. Was really concerned about what was happening to me.
Had a notion to look up the side effects of a drug I’d been trying out. “Fatigue.” So I tried skipping a dose. Night and day difference.
Fucking ‘ell, man. I hate that something so simple can convince me I’ll never think straight again.
What is it about tortillas that turn them from soft fluffy delights into impervious dragon hide once they lose 1% of their moisture
It's pretty wild how much guesswork is involved with brain drugs.
It's always like "Here, this might help with your condition, maybe, like 25% of the time. We don't really know how or why. It's far more likely to cause these dozen side effects, so enjoy those. When that doesn't work we've got several others you can try that also probably won't work. But all of them will definitely mess with your dick."
I want OSHA to develop an objective score for how awful a codebase is and if it exceeds a threshold then my exposure to it is strictly limited and I earn mental hazard pay
Attempting to write my own SSO implementation. What’s that advice everyone always gives? “Definitely write your own security software”? Think that was it.
How do I vote for the party that Republicans accuse the Democrats of being?
Today's early access release of Subnautica 2 reminded me that I made maps of Subnautica 1. I wonder if I can repurpose my code for the new game.
What flags are available in shell "if" statements?
% if --help
if>
no no, stop, ^C ^C ^C. How about:
% man if
"Here is a list of all the built-in commands in this shell which includes if. I will tell you nothing else."
Why are you like this, *nix?
If you must use LLMs (and you really mustn’t), the human should always be the driver of the task.
❌ “Summarize this document.”
✅ “Where in this document does it describe xyz?”
❌ “Write this code for me.”
✅ “Tell me why my code isn’t producing the result I expect.”
At most, LLM output should guide human decisions and output, not produce the output.
“I’ll check its output” is a fail-dangerous setup. “I’ll do it myself with hints from the LLM” is fail-safer.
Just dawned on me that the spare chair I put next to the shoe rack in my bedroom so I can sit while putting on my shoes probably just looks like a cuck chair

"Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end.
Speak your truth, fight and believe."
I wish I were knowledgable enough about any topic to correct people on the internet. Then again, why let that stop me?

It’s been so long since we’ve had a functioning government that I sometimes forget what it’s supposed to do.
If a commodity is as important to modern life as RAM and the RAM manufacturers are making deals that are preventing consumers from obtaining any of it then it’s time for the government to intervene. A supply of 0 for another entire year is unacceptable and dangerous.
My early impressions of #Subnautica2 are generally positive. A little rough around the edges, expected for a first early access release. E.g. exposition needs some polish to be clearer, VO doesn’t match captions, some minor confusing UI elements. But the core is there.
And they didn’t make the protagonist speak. Thank god. It’s a small choice but wildly changes the feel and immersion of a game! “I’m in this world” versus “I’m controlling this other person in this world.”
If you’re in the market for a prejudice, “if most people like it, it must be shit” has had a pretty good hit rate for me
