I keep forgetting to post for #ThrowbackThursday but I have remembered today. This is my nursery/play school photo from what must be around 1973. I am the daft one grinning madly - middle of the top row of kids.

My wife teaches Mike Oldfield’s grandson. That is all.

RE: https://cupoftea.social/@revivalrecords/116930773001811278 Just listened through. New Beginnings could well be the best track on the album, along with the title track. I’m not so keen on the talky ones, but they may grow on me. Overall I think this is a definite vinyl purchase want list addition. #YardAct

New Yard Act album is out tomorrow. If this track is anything to go by it’s going to be a good one! "New Beginnings" by "Yard Act" from the album "You're Gonna Need A Little Music" - listen here #YardAct #NowPlaying

@TheVinylApe@cupoftea.social Hey. Are you anywhere near the fires? They look pretty dramatic. Hope you are staying safe. Obviously you will guard your records with your life, right 😄

Breaking my own rule and having a mid week glass or two of wine to calm the nerves. #ENGARG

Well it’s very cute and small and perfect for that, but it has taken me 5 minutes to say nope to the OS. Lubuntu here we come. #AcerAspireOne #WriterDeck

Ok, last one before I become an Island Records samplers bore (too late maybe - but there ARE more I could have played) but here is the aforementioned El Pea. It’s another terrific compilation. #vinyl #ElPea #IslandRecords #VinylCommunity #NowPlaying #NowListening

RE: https://cupoftea.social/@revivalrecords/116919458610551860 Somebody pointed me to the right place on Portsmouth port’s website and it confirms there that “Our x-ray machines won’t harm your film or camera.” I looked everywhere for that info and there it was all this time. So that’s the answer, and I’m very pleased about that 😄 https://portsmouth-port.co.uk/at-the-port/security/

Ok, I can’t seem to land on what I want for my writer deck, but this seems to tick all the boxes. The Thinkpad is just too chunky to be easily portable, so I needed something small, light, no distractions, simple and an unbloated OS. This little 10inch ultra portable netbook seems to fit the bill. And for the princely sum of £35 it is now mine. Might need to buy a new battery for it at some stage but it’s not a great deal of money to take a punt on. #WriterDeck #NetBook

If you are in any way a Spin Doctors fan, or just kind of like them, do yourself a favour and try and get a copy or listen to Shag by Chris Barron. It is incredible. If ever an obscure release deserves to be released on vinyl, it is this one. #CD #ChrisBarron #SpinDoctors #Shag

Having my first early evening tipple in this. I had forgotten I had it but as soon as I saw it I remember where I got it. Took my dad to a British & Irish Lions game probably 20 odd years ago. I still miss him around big sporting events - he would have loved moaning about this World Cup and sharing his wisdom. When I watch cricket test matches I find myself often reaching for the phone to message him. It’s been 10 years now :(

Well, I said I’d continue. And if Nice Enough To Eat isn’t my absolute favourite, Bumpers is. I guess it’s everybody’s favourite Island sampler. #vinyl #IslandRecords #Bumpers #NowPlaying #NowListening #VinylCommunity

Quite a few candidates for #JukeboxFridayNight but I can’t get this one out of my head. #Royalty You’ll Be Back as sung by King George :)

Been a bit quiet - we had some awful family news last week which I won’t go in to. Off to France tomorrow where I hope exploring, record hunting, cooking and music will help us all cope with it. As much as it can, anyway. No WiFi where we are heading so sporadic updates will follow.

I guess I had to choose the year I got married, it was the best day of my life. 1997 is #MyYearMySong for #TuneTuesday. Lots of candidates, but I chose Gorky’s because they mean a lot to us both, they were local to us at the time, and we played them a lot throughout our dating. Anyway, any track off Barafundle will suffice, but I went with this one. "The Wizard & the Lizard" by "Gorky's Zygotic Mynci" from the album "Barafundle" - listen here

Just watched the last ‘The Rest Is Football’ World Cup show on Netflix and the good news is it’s back weekly from the start of the new premier league season. I was hoping that would happen - it’s been brilliant. #TheRestIsFootball

I was playing this the other day as it came on shuffle and I knew I had it somewhere on vinyl. Found it (I can’t tell you where due to embarrassment). I like pretty much all things Harper, so added Jimmy Page is just a bonus. #vinyl #NowPlaying #RoyHarper #JimmyPage #VinylCommunity #VinylRecords

Last year we were incredibly lucky to find ourselves in the middle of this festival near Vannes in Brittany. It remains one of the best evenings of my life, and this video doesn’t really do it justice, but you can get a feel for it. Almost 100 different Breton bands marching and playing so evocatively. We’ll be going back soon. #Brittany #Breton #Bombard #music

Consoling myself after watching England lose in the football, by watching England lose in the Cricket. We are nothing if not consistent. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 v 🇮🇳 #Cricket

RE: https://c.im/@thewhothismonth/116936212042498545 Oh ffs. How many versions of these albums can I have in my collection. The answer to that, apparently, is some more.

For #ThursdayFiveList this week we’re entering a #FantasyWorld Let’s go on an adventure…. "Journey of the Sorcerer" by "Eagles" from the album "One of These Nights" - listen here "Narnia (Stereo Mix)" by "Steve Hackett" from the album "Please Don't Touch (Deluxe)" - listen here "Ramble On" by "Led Zeppelin" from the album "Led Zeppelin II (Remastered)" - listen here "In the Land of Grey & Pink" by "Caravan" from the album "In the Land of Grey and Pink" - listen here "Return To Oz" by "Scissor Sisters" from the album "Scissor Sisters" - listen here

Fifth or sixth play through - think it might be becoming my favourite Jack White solo album.

Physical media doesn’t just mean the music - fanzines and magazines are back! Good article from The Guardian here. Includes one I’ve written for several times - Heavy Soul. Good timing as I’ll be going to print soon with the first edition of my very own magazine! #fanzines #magazines #music #PhysicalMediahttps://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/jul/15/uk-fanzines-zine-radical-resurgence

In the spirit of my new status as prediction guru extraordinaire, I am going for a 3-0 win to England tonight. I think we will have one of those performances. Sod it. I’m going for 4-0. Two each for Kane and Bellingham. I reserve the right to edit or delete this post accordingly and hold no responsibility for any losses or damages resulting as a direct or indirect consequence of this prediction.

Entered the lottery tonight as it’s a guaranteed-somebody-must-win £9 million jackpot. I expect I’ll win. #UKLottery

Been writing for like 6 hours straight. Forgot to drink any water. Very hot office. I need a hydration break and a lie down!

Spent a large part of this early evening listening to Melt-Banana. I think I have come across them before, but a deep dive is definitely required. #MeltBananahttps://music.apple.com/gb/album/the-hive/694506225?i=694506256

#EmbraceTheWild you say? All seems a little bit too energetic. Especially when there is cricket on TV later. But I shall try for #ThursdayFiveList as I am nothing if not a trooper. "Hunting Bears" by "Radiohead" from the album "Amnesiac" - listen here "Wild Hearted Son" by "The Cult" from the album "Ceremony" - listen here "Tarzan's Nuts (2009 Remaster)" by "Madness" from the album "One Step Beyond..." - listen here "Call Of The Wild" by "Purple Hearts" from the album "Pop-Ish Frenzy...." - listen here "Wild Fire Woman" by "Bad Company" from the album "Straight Shooter" - listen here

Confession - I’ll probably get around to El Pea this evening as another great Island Records sampler. My confession is that I didn’t get the pun for way too long. Much longer than it should have been. The giant pea on the cover probably threw me, but honestly, I am obviously a little slow on the uptake. #ElPea #LP

Scored a bit earlier than I thought they would in 2nd half - but I’ll take that 😎

Works well and very speedy as you’d expect. No browser, no email, no WiFi - just Office XP (thanks to the Internet Archive) which I’ll use for writing. #WindowsXP #WriterDeck #Thinkpad

Also, the end of Spooky Tooth’s ‘I Am The Walrus’ cover is very, very similar to the end of In The Crowd by The Jam. I assume Paul Weller will see this and respond. #SpookyTooth #TheJam #IAmTheWalrus #TheBeatles

Can’t watch any of the #CommonwealthGames as I have to draw the line somewhere for streaming services. Sad that the BBC aren’t showing it - I thought it was one of those always free to air things.
