Do you need more control over the packages that will be installed in your Pixi workspaces?

You can now define [constraints], which allow you to specify which versions are allowed when a package is installed.

We're thrilled to announce our second non-prefix core maintainer of Pixi!
Welcome Lucas Colley! He's been an ESOC 2025 student and since then kept being active, both in the Pixi repo, our Discord community and by adding Pixi to Open-source projects like CPython, SciPy & Numpy!

Today was a good day for the @gnome ecosystem on @condaforge! Two PRs merged to get more low level libraries: libadwaita, sassc, appstream, libshumate and json-glibc by Dan Yeaw and Felix Häcker.

The https://notebook.link team is building "serverless scientific computing" on top of the modern Conda ecosystem & the https://prefix.dev package server. Pixi GUI now supports an interactive view to inspect the lockfile!

- 🔎 Search in the table
- ©️ Visualize and sort licenses
- 🌲 Tree view for clear dependency relations
- 🌐 Links directly to the browser.

Everyone loves shell completions, right? With carapace, you get amazing shell completions for most CLI tools, including Pixi since the latest release. This works on all platforms and shells.

Last week, we merged a large refactor of rattler-build to split it up into multiple crates and make the parser even more strict. As part of this work (together with @anacondainc) we ran the new parser over >3000 @condaforge feedstocks already converted to v1.

Pixi is gaining traction fast in robotics, so we built a dedicated landing page to help roboticists get up and running quickly.

You can now register Pixi workspaces globally and access them through their name from anywhere in your shell!

From all our conda CLI lovers this was a big request!

Thank you Sophia Castellarin for the implementation!

Big news: We're rebranding Pixi to VIPER. Turns out ditching the snake theme was a mistake and we're slithering back! New mascot incoming. Thoughts? 🐍

Bioconda now recommends Pixi ahead of conda and mamba as the way to get started. This means a lot to us. We're all-in on making Pixi the best tool for scientific package management.

The RFC period has started on the "staging cache" CEP for the v1 recipe format. This might sound like gibberish but is a powerful feature that will allow us to convert more (complicated!) packages on @condaforge to the V1 recipe format!

The latest Pixi releases and installer on Windows are properly signed with a Microsoft Certificate.

Would it be useful to integrate signing for macOS and Windows into rattler-build?

When you're building recipes for conda-forge, there is an example list that you can use as inspiration for your own recipe!

Hopefully we can extend this list with more community help!

One of our favorite features of Pixi GUI: Notifications when tasks complete! A bit strange that the native Terminal app does not support this.

We're taking supply chain security seriously for the Conda ecosystem. That's why we integrate deeply with the @projectsigstore ecosystem for attestation – soon coming to recipes as well to validate source code (sdist, github release) attestations.

Our parser is now stricter. This means great error messages for undefined variables and ambiguous match specs. Unfortunately that also means that some recipes that used to work, have to be adapted to work with the newest Rattler-Build version.

rattler-build handles thousands of real world packages, and they often come with small patches. Historically, we used a mix of `git apply` and `patch`, but both have issues for cross-platform compatibility with a wide range of real-world patches. Now, we have our own Rust library

Pixi skills are kinda cool. A couple extremely useful ones already hosted on prefix – such as the `conda-forge` skill, or the `rattler-build` skill. It's useful because it contains a bunch of expert knowledge, digestible for agents.

This is very powerful for the R ecosystem as often, system level dependencies are underspecified. CRAN packages generally need to be built from source. pixi-build-r makes that super smooth - you don't even have to release to CRAN! You can just depend on another project from git.

We are highly motivated by the idea of making it easy to build & cross-compile for RISC-V hardware, and support open hardware with a lot of scientific and other open software. RISC-V and the idea of conda-forge & Pixi align very well! cc @EuroHPC_JU @EuroHpc

We want to make it easier to build packages!

For that, we have a unified debug experience in `rattler-build` now. You can run `debug setup`, enter a `debug shell`, and even add some dependencies into the host environment with `debug host-add`.

Over the past years, our platform has grown from just a few small channels to over 600 Conda channels storing more than 20TB of data.

To help scale it further, today we are launching a fair pricing model based on your usage and needs.

The main firmware for the Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter has a pixi.toml now.

To quote: "Pixi has a great potential to make our embeded developer lives much easier so I am looking forward at it becoming even better for embedded development! And I would welcome a PR for 'pixi build'"

Would you like a graphical installer for Pixi GUI? We're considering to add it to the MSI installer on Windows. Let us know – especially if you are distributing Pixi in-house.
