Oliver Moran
Erstwhile software engineer. Male. etc. Cork Greens councillor for #CorkCC North East.
Residents of Middle Glanmire Road not putting up with it yesterday — in support of blind community members. 👏👏
Thanks Liz Dunphy and the Irish Examiner for reporting the new e-bike library being put in place by Cork City Council.
Local residents will be able to borrow an e-bike and try it out at home, on their commuter to work — and where ever else it takes them for four months with just a €50 deposit.

Pleasure to visit the National Learning Network in Hollyhill this morning. What an amazing campus and college for people with different abilities. 👏👏
Thank you to the students and staff who were so welcoming and willing to show off their work — and tell us about their ambitions.
Once was the time, we had to worry about Fianna Fáil, property developers and the Galway tent.
Now is the era of "solutions" gifted from billionaires. Ordinary people told a shed in someone's back garden is a step on the ladder. Not even a "starter home".
100 years of Fianna Fáil. Was it for this?
Happy surprise to bump into the use of these "in the wild" by St John's Ambulance volunteers this week.
An effective use of e-bikes at public events. 👏👏
Called into the Metropole this evening to observe the public consultation on the route for the Cork Luas.
Vitally important the route connected with Kent Station — and symbolically important that it come northside to MacCurtain Street.
50,000+ people signed this EU citizens initiative in the last 24 hours.
The initiative had already reached the first threshold of the required minimum support across EU member states.
Now, it needs 1,000,000 verifiable signatures across the entire EU ✍️ — of which it has more than 600,000 already.
I'll be walking from Darkness Into Light again tomorrow morning, starting at Ballyvolane. It's always a pleasure to join everyone, including my ward colleague and organiser, John Maher, every year.
If you can, please consider donating, to support someone in crisis.

Yesterday, I delivered letters to residents of Fernwood in Glanmire, after Ard Aoibhinn on the Banduff Road.
Letting residents know about a proposal by Cork City Council to take the estate "in charge". Finally taking responsibility for roads, utilities and public areas from the original developer.
Thanks Kevin Galvin and the Irish Independent for reporting my comments on regulator struggles over drone delivery in Cork.
A warning letter has issued to a drone delivery company. The Irish Aviation Authority regulate the air, but Cork City Council regulate the land.
What goes up, must come down.
Privilege to attend and listen to Ukrainian and Irish speakers remembering the terror and tragedy of Chernobyl 40 years after — a commemoration happening in the shadow of the invasion and defence of Ukraine today. 🇺🇦
A selection of events I was privileged to attend this week — from evidence for nature-based solutions to flooding, opportunities for local businesses from artificial intelligence, and a briefing on the Cork Commuter Rail Network.
Productive workshop yesterday afternoon between members of Cork City Council, the gardaí and the Local Community Safety Partnership on the working of Community Safety Forums.
These are open door meetings held quarterly, where residents can raise any and all issues to do with safety in their local area.
An era came to a close in Cork City Council tonight — with the retiring of Ted Tynan.
First elected in 1979. A socialist, a worker, a republican, able to be fierce, always genuine.
A ward colleague and someone to resonate with. A city better for his being.
Thanks, Ted 👏👏
Lively atmosphere in Blackpool Community Centre for the open day asking the community for their views on concepts for revitalising the village core.
Enormous and impressive work by residents of the area, along with Cork City Council, in developing the plan. 👏👏
Fascinating reading in the CSO data, maps and graphics on "Urban and Rural Life in Ireland".
All eyes on urban vs rural Ireland, but "independent urban towns", think Youghal, Tralee, Nenagh. The data shows those are where the real divide lies: small-town urban Ireland.

Thanks Peter McCartney and the Irish Independent for reporting two new commuter rail stations at Blackpool and Dunkettle being brought for planning permission.
The Blackpool station will help turbocharge the rejuvenation of the village. Dunkettle will be the first P&R on the northside of the city.
Threshold and the National Youth Council have asked for this to be shared widely.
A survey of 18–30‑year‑olds, who are:
(a) renting privately and receiving housing support (such as HAP or RAS); or
(b) currently trying to find a place to rent.
If this is you, or someone you know, let them know. 👍
This morning I joined Simon in Cork at the launch of a report on how we count homelessness.
A noble task — but one question I asked was what difference it makes, when we allow homelessness we do count to pass 10,000, continue climbing to 12,500, then 15,000, now 17,500 and (certainly) soon 20,000?
Delighted to be shown around the All Cork County Shield scouting competition by scouts big and small at the weekend.
Huge congratulations to everyone who took part — and, especially, local patrols from St Patrick's, Mayfield and Glanmire. 👏👏
Thanks Kevin Galvin and the Irish Independent for continued careful reporting of the situation around drone-use in the city.
The Irish Aviation Authority appeared at the Transport & Mobility committee last week. It looks like local drone operators will be allowed normal access to the skies again.
