What's their motivation? "Protecting the children" from pictures of boobs?
Doubtful.
Instead, I think the AI companies are looking for ways to more easily distinguish human-made "content" from bot-made content, in order to decrease the amount of generative slop that ends up being fed back into their training data.
I hate AI because it's been built of the forced exploitation of untold millions of artists and creative laborers, without even so much as consent, let alone compensation...
I don’t disagree that we need more positive and high quality hobby content. Sure.
But personally I’m so sick of dudes complaining about “political shit and rage bait and virtue signaling”, whatever half of that banal nonsense is even supposed to mean…
In fact, I’d go as far to say that people who whine about everything being “political” is a bright fucking red flag to me. My immediate assumption upon reading that is “this person is a Trump supporter who voted for this exact shit to happen because they want it to happen, and they don’t want to be confronted by the fact that other people don’t.” I know exactly what kind of people don’t want to hear about “politics” anymore now that Trump is elected, trampling our institutions, and fucking everything up. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, right?
I kind of disagree. How can you be certain a person in is a certain age without determining who that person is?
The local AI concept is flawed, as is anything that relies on trusting the user.
If you want to be certain that someone is over 18 at some point you need a government ID or birth certificate, and at that point you know a hell of a lot more about them than their age.
This is identity verification.
Yeah. I've been trying not to worry to much about social issues that are far behind my control. Too much of that is just anxiety-inducing for me.
The main function of a democratic republic is to elect leaders who are supposed to worry about solving problems so that we, as individuals, dont have to and can instead focus on doing other things.
The sad truth is that we all have so little faith in the people who are in charge that we take it upon ourselves to try to figure out the answers to society's privilege, but for what? Even if we think we have the answer, we don't exactly have the means to enact it when we aren't anywhere near the levers of power.
If we really want to make policy, we have to get more politically involved and maybe even run for office. Everything short of that is just venting or an intellectual exercise.
"Open weights" isn't worth a shit either.
If you don't have the access to training data or the computational power to bake it into a model, you are beholden to somebody's (or rather, some corporation's) binary blob. We're talking about the difference between freeware and FOSS effectively.
Not that it matters because all of thin generative AI stuff is for talentless tech bro chuds in the first place...
I do hate unregulated capitalism.
But that's not the only problem, even people in the non-profit space, as well as the supposed "communists" of the CCP in China are using and abusing machine learning techniques for the purposes of surveillance, oppression and exploitation.
It's not the technology's fault, obviously. But at that point this becomes a bullshit "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument.
Any self-hostable alternative to playit.gg for easily... #game #servers #wireguard #proxy #playit.gg
Any self-hostable alternative to playit.gg for easily exposing local game servers to the public internet?
For those who don't know, playit.gg is a free/cheap service for exposing self-hosted local game servers to the wider internet.
But as someone who already has access to a cheapish VPS, I'm curious if anyone knows of any self-hostable alternatives that I could just run as a container on my VPS.
I've been toying with using Wireguard UDP tunneling, but it's proving to be a little bit more difficult and complicated than I was bargaining for. So if anyone knows of anything out there that does something like this, I'd be grateful!
I was hoping to have servers be more public, so visible on the master server list and able to be joined by random people. (I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. lol)
Some ideologies are not really compatible with being a decent person.
Fiscal conservatism can at least be somewhat justified (even if I fundamentally disagree with it), but I would argue that much of social conservatism boils down to taking away people's basic human rights and personal liberty.
Yeah, that sort of thing.
I should say that I'm finally having some luck with using wireguard, so I'm making progress. Got a few rounds of Counter-Strike in with a friend about an hour ago!
