Today we celebrate nine years since we first spun up tech.lgbt!

Thank you to everyone who has supported the instance, both financially and with your volunteer support work. Plus, everyone who has made this community the place that it is!

About a month ago one of our admins had the opportunity to meet one of Fosstodon's admins at an (unrelated) conference. They shook hands, and were able to talk through some of the issues and concerns that we had about fosstodon.org's moderation.

While many issues and past misinterpretations were able to be cleared up during this brief talk, it also highlighted another important aspect; establishing and keeping contact.

While not everything can be solved with a good handshake and a quick talk, it *does* help that we now have a direct line of contact, so that if any issues arise in the future, we can discuss them.

We concluded that their moderation team has sufficient awareness of the issues surrounding our community. And, if any issues still occur, we have a direct line to resolve them, and potentially explain some of the sensitivities or blind spots that we'll be able to spot.

As such, we're lifting fosstodon's limit on this basis.

Content Nation scrapes and makes content searchable for which there is no reasonable expectation of implicit consent thereof.

Furthermore, GDPR takedown requests have been accompanied with a note of [paraphrasing] "unfortunately, since the original URL is still up, it will be downloaded again". Note that this is not how GDPR works.

The instance fetches and authenticates itself over ActivityPub, turning on authenticated fetch and blocking the domain will be enough to prevent new fetches.

We had about half of these suspended on tech.lgbt already, but there were an alarming number of newly discovered instances, warranting a notice.

This is not common, as transparency in defederation is often requested of instances, but much more frequently used as another vector of miscommunication and harassment of users on either instance.
