Next Sunday, the Swiss Champs in Sprint Orienteering are held in Lausanne.

Usually I don't prepare for orienteering, but I somehow stumbled into this one. 😛
The old town of Lausanne with its complex relief, stairs and tunnels invites to a very complex challenge. To mitigate that, I took ten minutes to wrap my head around the topography of the venue.

Looks like fun ahead...

Well, the Swiss Champs in Sprint Orienteering yesterday in #Lausanne were fun.
[A bit too short for my taste :-P, and also a bit too tricky. I like it when route choices are complex, but I don’t like it when simply understanding the task becomes the main challenge because of overly complex and illegible mapping. Check out the attached samples.]

I am looking for a way to map rock shelters pretty common in Southern France. Seems there was a proposal to map this with natural:rock_overhang but that might be stuck somehow.... Especially in the cases in which you have buildings, tracks and trails going along below these overhangs it might become tricky. (I do not have found any meaningful instructions)

Nja. Gestern wieder. Das Tram, das ich übernehmen soll, geht 16.14 ab PARA und ich so 15.51 noch auf dem #PublibikeZürich im Rütihof... Es hat schliesslich geklappt, aber ich mache mir schon Gedanken, was so ein Dead-line-sprinter aka last-Drücker-Typ in diesem Job als #Trampilotvbz verloren hat😬.
[Wenn ich nicht da bin, fährt der Kollege weiter, gibt ein DV [Dienstversäumnis] hinter die Löffel☠️; bis auf zwei Anfänger DV hatte ich noch keins]

Diese Woche durfte ich meine Ferien 2027 eingeben... und offenbar waren nur noch Ferien bis KW15 offen. Ich nehme also meine 5 W Ferien in den ersten 15 KW und danach für den Rest des Jahres keine mehr. Bei aller Liebe ... 🤫 ... muss ich mir das nochmal überlegen.

Mein erstes Peiltraining dieses Jahr ging gut [2m classic in Möriken AG]. Die Strategie war, von links oben nach rechts und dann untenrum zum Ziel aufzuwischen. Anfänglich stimmte der Rythmus zum Schluss etwas shaky mit zwei Approach-Runden bei der 4 und einer ApR bei der 2.
2m Sender lassen sich gut von oben her peilen, die Distanzen sind dafür dann etwas weiter IRL.

Of all competitors of M50 at the 2026 Sprint Orienteeering Championships in #Lausanne
To the 8th control, one athlete (Niggli) runs in 31 seconds. The second (Plattner) in 37, the third in 50, the tenth in 55, the 20th 68 seconds.

It thus looks like only 2! of 39 were able to find the by far best solution.

IMO a clear indication of an irregular task presentation...
