I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for Amy Friduss to try and get the other people on board of the doomed boat 'Over the Moon' to put on life jackets.
Except for her and her mother, everybody else drowned even though they were less than 100 yards from the shore of Lake Tahoe. Nobody was over the legal blood alcohol limit either.

Can memories be inherited? That's the question that then 10-year-old Jo Nagai tried to answer.
He started by testing if swallowtail butterflies remembered experiences they had as caterpillars. He found that at least 20% did.
Then he tested it with their offspring and found similar numbers and with one more generation. "Remembering" the memory was more common in male butterflies.

Report by U.S. Forest Service National Avalanche Center and Colorado Avalanche Information Center about the deadliest #avalanche in California history raises questions about the decisions that led to the tragedy.
The group was too big and bunched up for high avalanche risk conditions. It had been consolidated from two separate groups.

Reno Police Department body cam footage of the wrongful arrest of Jason Killinger, based on erroneous #AI #facialrecognition identification by software deployed at Peppermill Casino.
As you can imagine, Killinger sued the casino, the cop and the city of Reno, NV. He's settled with the casino and a court cleared the officer. The city remains in his crosshairs because it relied on 3rd party software for probable cause.

Oakland Airport's official name is now Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport.
In 2024 the airport tried to rename itself to San Francisco Bay Oakland Airport, but SFO took umbrage. San Francisco filed a lawsuit alleging that a second airport starting with San Francisco would create confusion among passengers.
The agreement also prevents OAK from changing its airport code to include the letters SF.
