The Comet is designed to be easy to open, fix and and re-assemble on your own :)
We're releasing mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models, mainboard PCB schematics and reasonably priced spares.
Longevity is not an afterthought for us.
mastodon 4.7.3We're Mecha and we're building Comet, a handheld Linux computer that's truly yours to own, build and mod!

We've started rolling out the much awaited Mecha Hub!
To get started, access the Mecha Hub using this link: https://hub.mecha.so/
You can use the hub to place, and manage, your pre-order with us. Thank you again for your support in helping us build the Mecha Comet :)
Comet has three hardware kill switches - WiFi, camera, microphone. They don't just toggle a software flag. They physically cut power at the circuit level.
We are now in the last 48 hours of the campaign, and if you are on the fence, we just published a full breakdown video (13 minutes) of the progress so far :)
What if one device held infinite possibilities?
The Mecha Comet is modular, extensible and ready to adapt to whatever you can think up. Also, 100% open-source!
If you missed our KS campaign, we're now accepting late pledges. We ship in September, 2026.
State of progress of Mechanix GUI and our native apps; everything is designed in Rust and Flutter.
You'll also notice our "wing design" playing an important role in both form, and function, of Comet's GUI!
A 10-layer PCB with 900 components into a pocket-sized device. Port placement on Comet wasn't arbitrary.
Each is positioned for:
- Physical balance
- Thermal management
- Usage ergonomics
- Manufacturing feasibility
We've put a lot of thought into designing the Comet's Keyboard extension; here's a quick rundown of its various features.
Here's a little 90s nostalgia on the Comet 👾
We loaded up DOSBOX to see how it handles the classics! Whether it’s dodging in Jazz Jackrabbit, surviving the traps of Prince of Persia, or top-down chaos in the original GTA, the architecture handles the translation beautifully.
What will people actually do with Comet? We get this question a LOT.
- Networking: Portable diagnostics; we've run Kali Linux on it
- Off-grid: LoRa module, pair with Meshtastic
- Industrial: Object detection. ROS (Robot Operating System)
- Prototyping: Your own extensions
Here's a look at the five-year evolution of the Comet!
Each iteration has been a vital lesson in understanding what a Linux handheld should be.
If you're just joining us, we're entering the final week of our Kickstarter campaign with over 2,700+ backers: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mecha-systems/mecha-comet-modular-linux-handheld-computer
We're sponsoring Flame Game Jam 2026 with a Comet! 🎮
https://itch.io/jam/flame-game-jam-2026
Flame is a powerful 2D game engine built on top of Flutter, enabling developers to ship games to Android, iOS, Web and Desktop from a single codebase.
The M.2 expansion slot on the Comet enables LTE, LoRa, WiFi, NVMe expansion for mobile field diagnostic tools, off-grid communication devices or even industrial monitoring!

Hey! We couldn’t be there at the Embedded World 2026, but Comet has made an appearance. Meet the Comet at our friends and design partners booth - Silicon Signals, Hall 4, Booth 500b.
For the battery on the Comet, we use a push connector instead of soldered/glued battery.
Specs:
- 4100mAh capacity
- 4A discharge current (high performance)
- Standard 3-pin connector
- Push connector for easy replacement/alternatives
- No special tools required
Hey everyone, I'm Shoaib, the Founder of Mecha.
On Fri, Feb 20th, 16:30 GMT ask me anything about the Mecha Comet!
Do you have questions about shipping, compatibility, pricing, support, or anything else?
Drop them on our reddit thread at https://mecha.so/reddit.
See you Fri!
Comet's aluminium frame serves two functions:
- Impacts: Acts as a roll cage, absorbing impact before it reaches the PCB/ components
- Thermals: Processor dissipates up to 2W under load; added LTE or NVMe on the M.2 slot means multiple heat sources in a dense package
We've designed Comet's IO board for easy access to the 40 GPIOs.
You can use it as a foundation to build your own extension, or extend Comet's functionalities by directly adding your own modules, sensors and MCUs.
