Those who are with QubeOS, how long did it take you to adapt and what was your hardware?
I’m trying to get into QubeOS. Coming from Graphene on phone and its compartmentalizations, I expect an easy transtition. But holy shit, theres like a qube for everything: usb qube, network qube, file manager qubem…etc.
I’m still learning but find it difficult, not because of its features (I like to tinker with things) but because my hardware cannot handle the OS. I have an intel i7 12th Gen with 40GB RAM laptop. It runs blazingly fast on other distros but really suffocating in QubeOS. By “suffocating”, i meant just playing a video in Firefox can cause problems. Moving the Firefox window around can freeze the system.
Those who managed to switch to it, what was your hardware (laptop, desktop?) and how long did it take you?
I really like QubeOS, its controls are amazing. But the hardware just couldnt handle it.

Whats the deal with Omarchy linux? Hype or it is actually that good?
So preface, I am extremely OOTL with the distros. I have my Fedora box for work and its been running just fine for 5 years now. Before that i am an Arch btw user with i3 config riced to the max. I wanted to get actual work done so i stuck with Fedora and have not attempted any other distros.
Anyway, this Omarchy seems like a big deal? Idk everywhere i search, people are saying stuff like it is the best thing for Linux. Recently, there was news that Omarchy actually got funded for like $8 million?? The money comes from some big names too: Dell, DHH, Stripe, Jack Dorsey…etc. The dev who is working on Hyprland also indirectly benefits from this funding.
Is this going to become a serious corporate backed distro? We have Redhat for that right? Or is this just hype

Replying to
compartmentalization
top reasons why GrapheneOS is highly praised: ability to create different profiles with different encryption keys, and hardened codes.
on Linux, the top choice is QuebeOS. But i tried it 4 times and still couldnt go with it. My laptop couldnt handle quebeos…
The other choice is SecureBlue. I heard that is called the Graphene of Linux. They have hardened codes, secure browser and very strict secure defaults. The downside? You need to be able to use distrobox, flatpak, rpm-ostree, brew to maintain your apps. So in a way, it is the same compartmentalization, but a bit messy.
If u cant deal with these 2, then maybe use TailOS to do your download. Not sure if it saves the data?
Using VM is also great. But i think a “super VM” is the only answer and that is QuebeOS. You can literally control everything inside each VM.

only on phone
but Secureblue, a Linux distro, really follows Graphene’s security hardening stuff.

motorola makes great phone. I remember my 1st Android phone, after years on iOS, was the Moto Z Play. That thing can last a week with light usage, or 3 days with medium usage on a single charge. Also remember those moto mods? Motorola had like speaker mod and even a mini projector that you can just snap on the phone.

going into a tunnel with 4 lanes: 1 left and 1 middle and 1 right lane all going toward tunnel, the outside rightmost lane is to go around the bridge (not toward tunnel). I was in the middle lane.
I had a gut feeling or something but the traffic was unusually slow. So i went ahead and drove to the rightmost lane and exited.
After exiting, we are 2kms away but i saw ambulance entering from the opposite lanes. So the 4 lanes on our left should have vehicles moving away from the tunnel. But some serious stuff went down such that ambulance must drive in opposite direction.
It turned out some electric cars malfunctioned and one of the car's battery combusted due to hot weather.

Does Libreboot prevent unauthorized USB boot, aka somebody boot another OS and wipe your drive?
I understand LUKs can be used to encrypt your data. But what would prevent somebody plug in a USB with and just wipe my drive?
On traditional BIOS like Lenovo, HP, Dell and even Framework you can set a supervisor password that locks the boot menu. So nobody can boot from the USB.
Coreboot is different though. I spoke with Starlabs whose computers run Coreboot, and apparently you can have the boot menu password. OTOH, Sys76’s Coreboot doesnt allow such things.
I ask because i want to libreboot my T480, but the number 1 thing i worry is unauthorized USB boot.
This one: libreboot.org/docs/linux/grub_hardening.html#grub…
seems to only lock the ability to edit the grub entry freely, aka press “e” to change stuff when grub fails to boot.

The ads themselves got worse too, not just about skipping them.
I see toooooooooo many ads about Taichi for men over 60. Fml, now it becomes Military calisthenic for men over 40.....
Also those ads with the zombie games....

Instead of completely moving to 1 service, I would try to compartmentalize the digital life better. For me I tried:
all banks and very sensitive stuff => Proton Mail
every other emails => Gmail.
Password Manager: yes Proton Pass is nice but i like things to work offline and access whenever i can => KeePass. I secure my database with a password and a keyfile. I transfer and uodate my database with Syncthing.
2 FA stuff: i had Authy but it is a piece of shit app now. So I am moving to Keepass. Yes, you can add TOTP to anything in Keepass. The only thing i still need Authy for is Steam.

This may focus on academic slides but those with presentation with complex setup, please feel free to share your thoughts. For equation heavy talks plus diagram heavy layout (arrows left right, boxes, callouts), do you still build everything in PowerPoint, or do you prefer LaTeX Beamer?
Also do you ever do a two step process: make the equations and core layout in LaTeX, export to PDF, then add arrows and boxes on top in PowerPoint or another tool? If yes, what tool and what export settings work best?
