Great to see my writing "Visions of Openness — The Diverse Perspectives on Openness for Designing Open Systems" published in the new DESIGNABILITIES special issue.

DRAFT: PERCEPTION-FORMING INTERFACES
What we perceive as reality is often considered as a mental and social construction that emerges from interactions with the world. Through these interactions individuals absorb impressions with their sensory organs that over time form a model of reality that gets projected onto the world. This model does not exclusively reside within the individual brain but exists and materializes...

NEW WEBSITE
After years with placeholders I am finally working on a new website. In fact it is rather a collection of micro project sites, which I will continue to build to openly share my explorations in systemic transformation.
Current version: https://markuskreutzer.com
How to increase the transformative impact of social-ecological systems research? The assumptions of how we relate to the world are often root causes of the destructive path we are on. Together with social-ecological systems researchers I approached this issue by rethinking how scientific insights could be communicated differently. The outcome is a guide to approach mental path dependencies and create strategic communicative interventions.
NEW WORK
The reproduction of existing assumptions and therefore circumstances is one of the biggest problems of designerly activities of all kind. I even think that our constrained form of designerly imagination might be an often overlooked driver for the rapid acceleration in the 21st century. This new exploration is an attempt to problematize this in the context of strongly needed transformations towards more balanced human-made systems.
DRAFT: PRECONFIGURATIVE DESIGNING
Design is typically understood as the creation of objects, systems or processes that interact with what we call the real world. This applied form of creation is preconfigured by underlying conditions. Such conditions can include particular methods embedded within a specific design practice. In turn, these practices are often grounded...

NEW PAPER
Phygital Vocabulary: Speculative Terms to Discuss the Implications of Emerging Reality-Forming Interfaces
To consciously perceive and discuss new developments we need new terms. This paper proposes a speculative vocabulary that describes possible characteristics of phygital spaces, an emerging development where the physical and the digital increasingly merge and fundamentally form human perception...

DRAFT: ARTIFICIAL IMAGINATION CONE
Humans deeply struggle with fundamental transformations, especially those transformations that need to engage with the mental conditions out of which we imagine. What if the automation of imagination makes such transformations more difficult or even impossible?...

DRAFT: PULL OUT POLICY DESIGN
Policy-making is one intervention format within many. Due to its dependence on public discourses it usually operates within dominant beliefs, norms, knowledges, imaginations and perceptions. Many futures are unimaginable out of a policy lens. Due to the dependence on dominant discourses, policy-making often struggles to create transformative innovation beyond those discourses. Because of that I would argue...

DRAFT: AI HAS IMAGINATION, IMAGINATION HAS AI
As many others I am thoughtfully observing discussions around the creative capabilities of AI, especially to what extent it can simulate imagination to generate something novel. Many discussions circle around questions such as if AI will have or already has human-like creative capabilities, what distinguishes humans from machines...

DRAFT: THOUGHT PROTOTYPING
Increasingly I see theory interested people like myself sharing early versions of their thoughts as reflections, provocations or drafts. For me this is a form of prototyping emerging thoughts in order to start conversations and test applicability early. In comparison to thought leadership such an approach does not aim to guide thinking into certain directions. It aims to intervene into existing ...
