I’m an Aurora Award Nominee!
My Monthly Short Fiction Roundup, which I have been publishing since 2016, is on the Aurora Award Ballot in the Best Fan Writing and Publication category!
Thanks so much to all the members of the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association who nominated me. I’m absolutely thrilled and honoured to be on the ballot in such fabulous company.
If you're in BC, you've definitely heard about the trapped orca calf on Vancouver Island, but it seems she finally swam out of the lagoon and into the open water! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/killer-whale-orca-calf-lagoon-vancouver-island-bc-free-1.7186129
Today, like every day, I'm thinking about our old man doggo who passed away in 2022. Our new dog never met him, but there is a spot in the house where the old dog always used to sleep where the new dog never sits or sleeps.
This, from @thedeadlands.com is for Jake.

So
many
books
Currently reading INFINITY GATE by M.R. Carey, book one of the Pandominion, set in one heck of a trippy multiverse: "the tale of humanity's expansion across millions of dimensions, and the AI technology that might see it all come to an end".
Just finished reading (AKA devouring) THE REDEMPTION OF MORGAN BRIGHT by Chris Panatier and holy freaking smokes, what a twisted, tortured tale. I could barely put it down. Two sisters. An old asylum, reborn. A haunted piece of earth. So so SO good.

My latest at Psychopomp is "A Multifarious Multiverse Reading List" --- https://psychopomp.com/a-multifarious-multiverse-reading-list/
I'm currently reading an ARC of THE WINGS UPON HER BACK, a science fiction (debut) novel by @samtasticbooks , and holy crow, what an adventure this is!
Out in April from Tachyon: https://tachyonpublications.com/product/the-wings-upon-her-back/

There are a lot of great books coming next month.. *looks at wallet and TBR pile and sobs*
Currently reading an ARC of LOVELY CREATURES by KT Bryski and oh my goodness, it is such a beautiful, dark, and unsettling twist on fairytales. All set in a storm-whittled landscape with something of a weird west vibe.

New story for my supporters on Patreon: "After Birth".
It's a dark fantasy story, and I imagine it as being part of the same loosely constructed universe as "The Whisper of that Blood" and "It's Easy to Shoot a Dog".
Currently reading an ARC of THE STARDUST GRAIL by Yume Kitasei, and enjoying this Indiana Jones / space traveling aliens book a lot. It has a loose, fun vibe and a whole lot of weird and wonderful aliens PLUS a thrilling hunt for an alien artifact, IN SPACE. https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250875372/thestardustgrail
My latest at Psychopomp is a review of Angela Slatter's THE BRIAR BOOK OF THE DEAD:
"Magic, Murder & Mayhem – a Review of The Briar Book of the Dead".
Need some more books for you TBR? No problem! Check out my latest at Psychopomp - 22 SFFH Books We’re Looking Forward to in March 2024
Currently reading ESCAPE VELOCITY by Victor Manibo, taglined as a "twisty new near-future genre-bending thriller: Knives Out in space with a Parasite twist."
High school reunion in space + old sins coming home to roost + upstairs/downstairs vibe = addictive!
https://www.kensingtonbooks.com/9781645660842/escape-velocity/#
Currently reading an ARC of WE MOSTLY COME OUT AT NIGHT, a "cross-genre YA anthology" that "reclaims the monstrous for the LGBTQA+ community". It's edited by Rob Costello & is such a joyful, moving, occasionally unsettling, always fabulous read. Out in May! https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/rob-costello/we-mostly-come-out-at-night/9780762483198/
My latest for Psychopomp is a review of THE HAUNTED HOUSE, a brand new album from Abandoned Pools!
