Professional computer-botherer. I really like music, scale models, horror movies, and complaining about politics.

All opinions are — perhaps regrettably — my own, and not those of any group/employer I am associated with.

@shlee@aus.social I use em rules, en rules, and semicolons. Fuck it, I even stoop to using the Oxford comma.

Pauline Hanson is a lazy flog. She can't even be bothered to turn up in the Senate most of the time.

Just a cosplaying as a politician and pretending a tiny cult-of-personality is a political party.

Went to see my mate Ben play a gig on the weekend, and it was very good. Vibey techno and electro. I did a dance.

People should buy his music https://featherstone1.bandcamp.com

I’m gonna stay out of the Boards of Canada discourse coz… I like to vibe with music, not argue about it.

But! I do like how beefy this new album sounds. Big chunky drums.

Yet another great open source project falls to the curse of vibe coding. RIP Rsync.

The history API in browsers is a mistake. Websites should not be able to break the back-button. I constantly run into sites that fuck it up.

Well, that explains it. They hired a banker as the CEO. Idiots.

Underrated film. A real shame it didn't do better.

I reckon I'm gonna pull out my laserdisc copy and watch it this evening.

Honestly wouldn't have expected Wikimedia to engage in union-busting.

Ah, yet another new record with a split sleeve, all coz they didn't pack the vinyl outside the sleeve.

It's such a common issue and so easy to avoid.

booooooo

On the upside, the marketing team definitely got the campaign live quicker than they would otherwise. AI living up to its promises…

More performative "concern" from Penny Wong. Always so concerned. Always ready to condemn. Also part of a Govt. that absolutely won't do anything meaningful about it.

I can't imagine being so arrogant, and so bereft of principles.

Had a nice time working on a Typescript project today. Not impressed with the whole JavaScript/Typescript ecosystem — so much convoluted bullshit — but it’s satisfying to think, then execute well. As in, it ended up being simpler than I expected.

Either Cloudflare has gone crazy, or bots are smashing every single site on earth. The volume of captchas I get every day is out of control. Multiple times on a single site.

To the point where I just give up browsing some sites.

Seriously, people positioning local LLM models as an alternative to corporate, wasteful bullshit are either naive or disingenuous. They’re all products of unethical behaviour. Point me to a local model with clear lineage of the data it trained on — public domain and/or licensed material — and then we can talk.

Oracle's revenue from its core business has been stagnant for years. They've only kept things rolling by using their cash to acquire other, better performing companies. They've tried to do the same by jumping in on the AI bandwagon. They're going into billions of debt to build capacity for _a single customer_. So much money that they feel like they need to fire people. I doubt it'll help. Salaries are nothing compared to the money they've sunk into data-centres. It just comes of as the typical reflexive cruelty of corporations; when things look shaky, just fire a bunch of people. https://www.businessinsider.com/oracle-begins-new-round-of-layoffs-2026-9
