A German ISP tampered with their DNS - specifically to sabotage my website

One of Germany's biggest ISPs changed how their DNS works, right after I exposed an organization that they’re part of.

Thanks FedEx, This is Why we Keep Getting Phished From 2024, but funny to read… What makes this situation so ridiculous is that while we’re all watching for scammers attempting to imitate legitimate organisations, FedEx is out there imitating scammers!

The Winning Variant

A short documentary about A/B testing, algorithmic optimization, and the small act of ignoring both. In 2009, a Google designer quit over forty-one shades of blue. The machine was making his decisions — and it was often right. About what it means to make something by hand in a world that can tell you, with a number, exactly what would have worked better.

The Small Website Discoverability Crisis
marginalia.nu

The Small Website Discoverability Crisis

There are a lot of small websites on the Internet: Interesting websites, beautiful websites, unique websites. Unfortunately they are incredibly hard to find. You cannot find them on Google or Reddit, and while you can stumble onto them with my search engine, it is not in a very directed fashion. It is an unfortunate state of affairs. Even if you do not particularly care for becoming the next big thing, it’s still discouraging to put work into a website and get next to no traffic beyond the usual

Hmm. Using the search term “small website discoverability crisis” . . .

Well, do you think that it's realistic that the average user types that into the search engine's website ? When you already know the exact title of the post on that website, you probable already know the full URL and don't need a search engine. So, that has nothing to do with "discovering" in my opinion, which the blog post is about.

I asked this myself, too. AI response: clear: clears the visible screen (sends the terminal’s “clear” sequence); usually fast and does not change terminal settings or fully reinitialize scrollback. reset: fully reinitializes the terminal (sends init strings, resets modes/attributes, may reconfigure terminfo/baud, and clears); slower and used to recover from garbled output or broken state.

Imagine, 20 people standing in front of you saying "Good job", but there are 25 more who have to tell you that they don't like what you are doing instead of minding their own business... That's the average social media with down votes enabled.

Luckily, the word "Certainly" is a huge hint that it was generated by AI. You know that the reporter of the "issue" copy-pasted the question of the developer right into the LLM and copy-pasted the output right into hackone.

I'm not experienced at it either and don't know the best resources. But what I can usually recommend in case you don't want to see the usual "THIS-IS-A-PIECE-OF-THE-PUZZLE---COME-BACK-REGULARLY-FOR-MORE-CONENT" stuff, but more in depth stuff: Enter "filetype:pdf systemd" in your search engine. Google or DuckDuckGo will then only spit out pdf files about that topic... And the people who write PDF files are usually more experienced with the topic than those who write blog posts or "how to's". Let me know if that helped in your case... :)

Sure. Thanks.

I guess, future will tell. The author is very focussed on the system card. Maybe, we get a CVE list in a few weeks. Who knows...

The Firefox test is not Firefox. It’s a SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine shell in a container, with “a testing harness mimicking a Firefox 147 content process, but without the browser’s process sandbox and other defense-in-depth mitigations.”

I'm for sure not an expert in this field, but I recently saw videos Form LiveOverflow about FireFox bug bounties and I think, it was the same setup. Finding a bug in one of the components was enough for them to take it very serious.

My most relevant experience: A colleague sent me a paypal link that allows me to accept money. Nowadays, I know that it was legit. But instead of paypal.com, it was something like py.pl?code=abcdef or p.pl?code=abcdef or whatever… Thanks, Paypal!!. Clicking the shortened hyperlink did not save me any time, but it wasted multiple minutes for me to research whether the domain was a scam or not.
