@jon@gruene.social - Regarding the German border police checks you’ve mentioned. This morning, I arrived in Berlin from Pisa by plane. I was one of the first off, and when we entered BER there was a group of about 10 Bundespolizei asking to see people’s passports/papers. I was waved through but they stopped others. A few minutes later, I asked a guy why they had stopped him and he said it was because he wasn’t dressed well and shrugged it off. I found the whole thing unconscionable.

Maybe I picked it up from you. :) I often think of the folks I interact with regularly here as prescreened people I’d like to convert into friends if we are ever able to interact irl. I care about quite a few of them and get excited when I can be helpful or supportive of them. When im having a hard time, I’m buoyed by thinking about how the world is full of these good people whom I know only through their word and creativity.

The current price in Gaza is $10 per kWh. To put that in perspective, Californians pay $0.20-$0.34per kWh, and Germans pay about €0.40 per kWh of electricity. Additionally, for electricity after dark, one needs to have a 12V 75 Amp battery, which will cost another $2500-$3000. Most countries have already phased out 2G. @Flowermob@mastodon.social None of the ICE agents will see this post, but a lot of people who would normally be fighting alongside you, and who are also struggling with weight/health issues will see this and feel targeted/disrespected/hurt. We have so many valid ways and reasons to criticize ICE. But resorting to insults that use physical appearances as the butt of a joke will only alienate potential allies and ruin someone’s day.

Unless you are one, in which case you should STFU and either change your wrong-headed ideas or find a way to not exist in society. But if you are seriously trying to be a good person, but only know how to interact through intellectualizing an idea: please take a step back and consider real world consequences of actions and speech. Violence/suffering vs care/solidarity.

But I know a lot of people are not in that position, like those dealing with all variations of disordered eating. I hope you and others would want to make all public discussion/spaces as welcoming as possible to any kind-hearted observer, regardless of their mindset—especially with regards to politics.
