So apparently the Maps app that Murena ships with /e/OS isn't acutally a fork of Magic Earth with nothing changed as I suspected before. In reality, it's just an installation of Magic Earth where they've gone in and created an icon overlay to make it look like their own. And you can apparently also remove that mapoverlay with adb to make the icon return back to normal.
I find it to be one thing to just repackage programs like Etar Calendar and ship as your own. But to not even bother to repackage and instead create a foundation.e.mapsoverlay feels a little bit scummy, or?
(for full transparency, I have not dug into murena repos to see if foundation.e.mapsoverlay does anything more, but this is the immediate difference I saw on my screen when I removed it during my debloating process)

hello fedi long time no see!
my name is Runar, but I usually go by runarcn online. I used to be here a few years ago as @runarcn@wetdry.world but deleted that account a while back (seems a mistake now :p)
I'm a musicology student from Norway currently on exchange in Brazil where I'm working with different musical, social, and educational projects. I'm really interested in free software (or open source), jailbreaking and reviving/repurposing 'old' technology, and different topics relating to anthropology and social sciences - as well as music of course.
I currently run Aurora Linux on my PC and Sailfish on my phone, though I intend to reinstall Gentoo on my puter soon. I am also a big fan of KDE and probably the biggest fan of larry the cow

the problem with sailfishos is that like-
okay look the operative system itself is actually really good and i love the gesture based stuff + how apps automatically look cohesive based on your theme,
but why does 70% of available native apps have to be vibe coded slop?
it's always like "oh hey this could be neat" looks inside Claude has done all the commits and the app breaks down and dies completely at will
