Lots of warm sunshine and a very rewarding day for spotting basking butterflies.

A relatively unusual avian visitor to an outdoor cafe, but there was a rookery nearby. The bird was quite brazen about its scavenging.

I really enjoy coming across maritime plants such as this sea rocket with its pretty pale-pink flowers.

It seems that the local starlings have had a good breeding year. I've seen flocks of 100+ on the coast. This group are tucking in to some invertebrates concealed in the seaweed.

The Scottish Parliament now has a pro-Independence majority.

Phew!

I really appreciate it that my Japanese husband is allowed to vote in the Scottish Parliamentary election. He's not allowed a vote in the UK General Election because he's not a British citizen. (He'd have to renounce his Japanese citizenship if he wanted to become a British citizen, because Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship.)

Thank you Scotland!

I know someone who travelled down to London from Edinburgh to attend this march. It was huge. Channel 4 News didn't even cover it. They preferred to spend five minutes on a story about an escaped capybara. Sigh. 🤷‍♀️

If you have your own garden, you can sign up for No Mow May here. Even better, you can leave parts of your garden uncut until the late summer.
Pollinators and other wildlife will benefit.

Replying to
@the5thColumnist@ottawa.place There is not currently such a thing as Scottish citizenship. If you are a foreign citizen with indefinite leave to remain then you can vote in Scottish parliamentary elections.
