After listening to about a dozen first-hand accounts, I’ve published what I know so far about the RubyGems takeover.
Joel “this is bs” Drapper
Full-stack #Ruby / #Rails / #TypeScript / #CSS engineer, CEO of #HTMX, formerly at Clearscope and Shopify — author and maintainer of the gems #Phlex, Morphlex, Literal, Quickdraw — cohost the @rooftop@ruby.social podcast.
If you attend, sponsor or speak at Ruby Conf this year, you are taking a “fuck you” stand against all open source maintainers.
I don’t post on Mastodon anymore because I find AT is much better. Follow me on the ATmosphere.

@rgarner@mastodon.social I think Marty is actually a decent person and I don’t think it was him. Unlike others, he hasn’t defended Ruby Central’s actions.
E Corp had the video that proved Ruby Central was full of shit taken down from YouTube. Here’s another link (not mine) that still seems to be available. http://gofile.me/6g3JG/oTY79Vk3b
It’s funny how he’ll happily do stuff like this in Turbo, but we can’t have keyword arguments in Rails because it’ll break the git commit history. 🤔
Majestic `options = {}`
There's a Ruby gem with a two-letter name that keeps a server running in the background so you can run commands with no startup latency. Does anyone remember what it‘s called?
