It’s been about 8 months since the stray #crazycat showed up on my back porch. I guess he has finally decided humans are okay to hang out with. He also seems to like the smell of a sweaty shirt.

@Sibwin @alice Servers are like towns with their own communities and governance. Your account is located in your town and must follow the towns rules. But, you can visit anywhere you like through the Federated timeline. If you have a friend in another server, you still can follow and like and explore the other towns in the federated universe. If you don't like a towns rules, you can move yourself to another town.

@alice @Sibwin yes, in this case each account name is like an email address. the part after the @ symbol designated the different servers. kind of like having email addresses on multiple systems. for example, just like you can have a yahoo and a gmail email address using the same first part before the @. Unlike twitter (well, old twitter), there is no verification system saying that i'm the real jamescragle. someone could created one on a different server and cause confusion.

@alice yeah, I'm new here too so I'm still figuring that out. One thing that's very different here is the moderation. If an account is maliciously impersonating, they get removed very fast. but, that's at the discretion of the server owner. until I get super famous and need to protect myself, I'll just keep one account. I found this instruction manual quite helpful. It's updated regularly and explains all the bells and whistles. https://docs.joinmastodon.org/

@mollywoodpro@mastodon.social honest question to the most technical person I know! I’m def not an expert in this area but is hydrogen a pipe dream? Seems like lots of companies like Toyota and others been promising hydrogen for decades and it’s still “right around the corner” . Will we get fusion before we get hydrogen?
