A week old but can’t stop thinking about the healthy life expectancy stats (Healthy life expectancy trends in the UK: a watershed moment.)
90% of local authority areas have a healthy life expectancy below the state pension age (in 10% it’s below 55). Combined that with the constant whine that people should be in work, not on health-related benefits, and we’re back to the bad old days when you worked until you were broken.
The difference now is that, because overall life expectancy has improved, it’s ’work until you are broken, then spend longer being miserable and ill’.
For many data like these are abstract, too far in the future to matter. But it is all part of a depressing mood music, another indication that optimism is just a British way to say delusion.

This is running on a GoToSocial instance, which is alpha software. Combined with the dangers of my inept tech skills, things might not always work. This is, currently, the only thing approaching an active social media presence I have.
Posts are likely to be about #politics, especially the dire state of UK politics. And #LEGO.

@technomancy@icosahedron.website A generous offer! I *think* I’ve got my GoToSocial up and running, but find search is temperamental, so would be interested in your experience. I can’t work out if it’s my shoddy installation, the fact it’s alpha, or consequence of Mastodon’s sudden growth.

@technomancy@icosahedron.website That explains some of it, I hadn’t seen hashtag wasn’t implemented. Users is very sporadic for me, but have never managed to eliminate anything (doesn’t help that I’m testing different apps, too).
I’m veering towards thinking it’s a load issue, since I can’t see anything suspect in the logs, but was curious if my experience was typical.
