The World Through AI, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, 11 June – 20 Sept 2026 https://www.schirn.de/en/exhibition/the-world-through-ai The exhibition is pleasant to walk through, perhaps a little too pleasant. It leans heavily on established forms of contemporary AI art, the kinds of works that are already most commonly shown in major museums and established galleries. It doesn't take many risks, making it fairly predictable. What I missed was a broader range of alternative and dissenting perspectives on AI art, especially the more radical, subversive, underground approaches that are often the most thought-provoking, yet rarely find their way into the mainstream. Or, to put it more precisely, there's nothing wrong with the exhibited artworks themselves. What I missed was what wasn't there. I wish the curators had been bolder in seeking out and presenting radically different perspectives, works that don't aestheticize AI art and its associated mainstream practices, but actively challenge and subvert them. As it stands, the exhibition as a whole remains firmly within its comfort zone, which is unfortunately typical of many mainstream exhibitions. In short, I kept looking for Duchamp's Fountain, and it was nowhere to be found.
