"There was an old woman tossed up in a basket,
Seventeen times as high as the moon...."
from the Third Ladybird Book of Nursery Rhymes (1967), illustration by Frank Hampson
One from the vaults! Of course, the undoubted god-emperor of the TV tie-in books were the Target Doctor Who novels, launching in 1973 with a novelisation of the Doctor’s first encounter with the Daleks by David Whitaker (actually first published in 1964)
One from the vaults! Before streaming, before DVD, before video tapes, the only way to revisit your favourite TV show was.. the tie-in paperback!
A drop of dream fuel - The Mysterious Planet by Dean Ellis
Not having the best morning TBH, but if you need a lift here's our little dog Tallulah showing off and looking cute!
A drop of dream fuel - Tomorrow and Beyond by Dean Ellis
The world often speaks,
Stop, take time, and listen for
Wisdom from the trees
If you are having a tough Monday, take some advice from our little dog Tallulah - have a nap!
My review of Monumental - a novel of pagan terror by Adam LG Nevill is now up! https://substack.com/home/post/p-192336365

The first editions of the Fontana Books of Great Ghost Stories had marvellously spectral visions summoned up by the great Alan Lee #PhantomsFriday
One from the vaults! Ripping off... I mean inspired by Tron, Automan roared onto our screen back in 1983 only to roar off again after a mere dozen episodes...
Coiling between doors,
Warding outer dark away,
A vigil in stone
One from the vaults! Another fine collection for kids, full of classic chillers and reprinted many times, was Ghosts, Spooks & Spectres (1967) edited by Charles Molin - actually a pseudonym from author William Mayne
There is be a full write-up on Automan's history as part of my One Season Wonders at some point, but I'm a bit all over the place as my Mum was taken into hospital last night with a nasty infection x
One from the vaults! Tie-in paperback for the 1971 TV series Jason King, which in itself was spin-off of the earlier series Department S (1969)
