I fell into the #incrementalreading rabbit hole so hard that I ended up making my own implementation for #emacs

Still incomplete, but a very poignant video in my feed inspired me to share it with the world, even if it's imperfect and even if it still needs a lot more work.

@joshavanier I'm proud to see you practicing my language's alphabet! A few tips related to what I've noticed:

  • To get more acquainted with the letter forms, it'd be better if you use the grid that I'm including to this reply as a picture. If you don't see it, you can look up pictures of "საწერი ბადე", which is what this pattern is called.
  • Don't be afraid to take up space when you're practicing. It's generally easier to write bigger.
  • The letters კ, ლ, ჟ, რ, ტ, წ, ჭ and ჯ have alternative cursive forms that you may find easier to write.
  • When you're writing a word, make sure that the middle parts of each letter are aligned. The ე in მხედრული, for instance, is too high, so it breaks the vertical balance.

I'm curious about why you decided to practice Georgian in the first place. Regardless of the reason, I'm happy that you're exploring it. There's more to discover, so keep going : )

@mms@mastodon.bsd.cafe `C-x z` and repeat-mode are your friends in that case.

@scattershot@merveilles.town I stumbled upon this a few days ago as well! As far as I can tell, the microtonal music and the conlang (Shasavic) are two separate things. But all the explanations of both the conlang and the microtonal system are in the conlang itself, which is mind blowing. This playlist contains the original video and some explanations:

@mms@mastodon.bsd.cafe I used to work in Java for a while and used https://github.com/emacs-lsp/lsp-java. It was good for navigation, autocomplete and error detection, but its formatting style was different from IntelliJ IDEA's style. This created problems, as my coworkers exclusively used the latter. In addition, dap sometimes didn't work well for debugging, but it was still better than having to look for an obscure setting in IntelliJ just to make the debugger work on Java 17+.

What prompted you to make the jump from Ruby to Java?

@mms@mastodon.bsd.cafe I find what you say interesting because for me Cyberpunk 2077 is a departure from other games in the same genre in terms of depth in its side quests. But I'm comparing it to something like Fallout 4.

After a small hiatus, I have published a new post! This is mostly a reply to a great article about the meaning of "being creative" and transforming it to be something beneficial instead of something that drags us down.

It is No Longer Clear What Being Creative Means

In praise of creating crap is an article by Annie Mueller that deconstructs what being creative is. This article acts like a dose of powerful antidote for me. It illuminates all the heavy ideas that I’ve apparently been carrying around for a while. It has to do with “being creative”. That phrase is mired with expectations. It is one of those sets of words that transcends literal meaning and becomes something quite abstract. It is not easily explainable, yet it also is quite potent. Annie propose

Discovered 4D golf's original soundtrack today.

I've known about 4D Golf for a while; CodeParade's devlog series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLh9DXIT3m6N4GygehtlHl0ukgrgPJZteI) introduced me to the game. Since I never played it though, it took me quite some time to discover the amazing original soundtrack made by https://www.phil-makes.com/noise

What I especially like about it is how it blends the electric guitar with the "analogue synth" sound. In addition, the soundtrack manages to paint a picture of a strange and bizarre world of 4-dimensional golf without resorting to many cliches.

I think the music holds very well on its own and should also be enjoyed separately from the game.
