#blog #ageverification
Laws focused on verifying our age and/or something similar are spreading like wildfire and they're bad.
It all basically accelerated the moment United Kingdom put the piece of law called #OnlineSafetyAct into work which was, and still is, flawed, from day one. Not only people have managed to bypass it massively but also they have been going away from those platforms that demand their real names just to use them.
And it's a worldwide process at this point. Whether we're talking about #ChatControl within EU or bills in the United States or even, the recent biggest act of "you don't deserve your privacy anymore" - bills that make it impossible to use an operating system.
Some are openly defying them, like GrapheneOS. Some decide to "clone" their work and remove the age verification part - an example of that can be read on @itsfoss@mastodon.social ("A systemd fork has set out as a <> to the age verification").
It's all bad. Data thefts didn't teach some people enough and if this thing stays on that way, only selected folks will have #privacy and freedom.
