Previously, formatting was done using simple markup (e.g. *bold*), which sometimes leads to unintended formatting and is limited in functionality. We now decided to transmit formatting information outside of the normal text, with optional fallback to markup for legacy clients. We worked on improving the specification and on support in three different clients, including <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@dino" class="u-url mention">@<span>dino</span></a></span>.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dino" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>dino</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/xmpp" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>xmpp</span></a></p> @fiaxh@mastodon.social @dino@fosstodon.org could we hope to have $\LaTeX$ formating at some point as well ?

What could be a reasonable option would be to have an input for a subset of LaTeX that is converted to a Unicode equivalent before sending or alternatively an easy way to enter LaTeX, render it locally into an image and send that image as a file instead. @larma@mastodon.social absolutly a subset of latex is all that is necessary just like is currently supported in element for exemple.
