Hamas: October 7 was an ‘extraordinary military achievement’ In a statement marking three years since the October 7 massacre, Hamas military wing spokesman Abu Obeida says that “October 7 was an extraordinary military achievement, with God’s help” “Enemies and friends alike acknowledged the scale of the planning, execution and deception,” he says. Abu Obeida adds that three years have passed since “the arms of the fighters shattered the occupation’s security doctrine. There is no deterrence left. Palestine will not forget those who stood by its side, especially those who shed their blood for it.” In a statement marking three years since October 7, Hamas military wing spokesman Abu Obeida says that “October 7 was an extraordinary military achievement, with God’s help” “Enemies and friends alike acknowledged the scale of the planning, execution and deception,” he says. No, Netanyahu wasn’t arrested during his UN visit, but those protesting against him were Dozens of people were arrested in New York City while protesting against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday. Actors Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder, as well as activist and whistleblower Chelsea Manning, were among the protesters arrested during a sit-in that blocked a main road leading to the UN. Handcuffed and escorted by a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer, Einbinder was recorded in a video shared on social media saying, “Netanyahu out of New York, no bombs on Lebanon, no bombs on Iran, stop the genocide.” Nerdeen Kiswani, founder of Within Our Lifetime, a Palestinian-led community organisation, criticised Mamdani’s video, saying it was “a far cry from campaigning on arresting Netanyahu. Instead of arresting Netanyahu, the NYPD arrested the protesters. “This is the exact opposite of what Mamdani ran on,” she wrote.

How Hamas hid 7 October plans in plain sight After Al-Aqsa Flood, most ex post facto discussions about the military operation spearheaded by Hamas on 7 October 2023 have centered on the apparent intelligence failures of Israel’s security apparatus. A number of these discussions have lamented what, in hindsight, appear to be indicators that Israeli security and intelligence apparatuses should have anticipated the operation. These judgments, however, belie several critical facets informing the pre-7 October 2023 state of affairs. Foremost among these is Israel’s colonial hubris, which led it to believe that it had effectively contained and neutralized Hamas within Gaza. Sinwar’s secrecy permeated even the ranks of the resistance itself. There are indications that Hamas’ political bureau, based outside Gaza, did not possess foreknowledge of the time, place or scale of the operation. In February 2025, two Hamas officials, Mahmoud Mardawi and Jasser al-Barghouti, gave an interview to veteran Al Jazeera journalist and television presenter Ahmed Mansour. The interview provided some crucial insights into the camouflage strategy of Hamas’ armed wing, the Qassam Brigades. Al-Barghouti highlights how Sinwar “went to the Egyptians to develop trade” and spoke with the Qataris about “expanding the economy in Gaza.” As political scientist Leila Seurat highlights in her book The Foreign Policy of Hamas, Hamas brandished a “logic of appeasement” when Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad exchanged fire in November 2019. “By staying away from confrontation,” she wrote, “Hamas obtained the opening of the Kerem Shalom crossing” – the Israeli-controlled commercial checkpoint – “the supply of fuel trucks, and an extension of the maritime territory granted to fishermen.” Senior political leader Mousa Abu Marzouk has said that they had no prior knowledge of the plan, telling The New Yorker in October 2023 that “all of Hamas’ leaders who are not military ones received the news early Saturday morning” – on the morning of 7 October 2023 itself. Simultaneously, Sinwar publicly dissolved the elite Nukhba commando unit of the Qassam Brigades and restructured the resistance into brigades, reinforcing the impression that Hamas’ resistance pursuits had been effectively constrained by the occupation. But the Nukhba force reemerged with a bang on 7 October 2023, leading the charge against the Israeli military bases and settlements in the “Gaza envelope” region of southwest occupied Palestine.

Great call. I’m not sure if they should focus so heavily on the recycling theme. In the end, the goal is a superior Linux operating system for all phones, not just recyclable hardware. But the logo still looks pretty sleek, so I’m fine with it

Israel bans Zack Polanski after Green Party backs 'Zionism is racism' motion Israel has banned Green Party leader Zack Polanski from entering the country after the party approved a motion at its conference declaring “Zionism is racism”. In a statement on Sunday, Israel accused the Green Party of England and Wales of legitimising “the destruction of the State of Israel”. Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the resolution, which also advocates for a one-state solution in historic Palestine, “constitutes a clear antisemitic text according to the IHRA definition, as it denies the Jewish people’s right to self-determination”. “Therefore, as a first step, foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar has decided this evening to declare Green Party leader Zack Polanski barred from entering Israel,” it said. According to Israel’s Law of Return, persons with at least one Jewish grandparent, and their spouses, have a legal right to enter, reside in, and acquire citizenship of, the State of Israel.

To hell with imagery, it’s a genocide Last Thursday, Netanyahu addressed the UN in New York City. Mayor Mamdani, who made it a campaign promise that he would arrest the war criminal with an international warrant out for his arrest, walked back this threat (despite thoughtful legal arguments for his duty and right to carry out the arrest) and also announced that he would not protest Netanyahu’s arrival in the city. Instead, Mamdani set his police upon the closed, invite-only gathering organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and Democratic Socialists politicians and candidates, arresting them as they chanted at the rear side of the United Nations building. In the days leading up to Thursday, organizations including Palestinian Youth Movement, Palestinian Feminist Collective, Code Pink, Jewish Voice for Peace, Democratic Socialists of America, the Party of Socialism and Liberation, and others, all advertised a public march set for hours after the start of Netanyahu’s speech (and nothing else); when folks online asked why they set the march for hours after the speech, rather than organizing a confrontation which many seemed eager to participate in after years of watching Netanyahu personally animate a genocide, the comments were ignored and/or reportedly removed from social media posts. While these organizations — JVP, PYM, DSA, and others — all mobilized to help get Mamdani elected, they were unable to leverage that support in any meaningful way at the exact moment in which it mattered. They did not put any public pressure on him to this end. In fact, JVP’s public gathering outside of the UN seemed to be primarily about advertising for the benefit of other politicians and those running for office. They did not disrupt the speech. But, for me, watching from afar, the most simultaneously depressing and enraging thing was knowing that Palestinian organizations were not even there. They didn’t even show up. It wasn’t just that they organized a march for hours later, ensuring that there would be no confrontation — they ceded the space for JVP and DSA to hold this political theater, lobbying for the advancement of more Mamdani-like politicians when they were not even able to hold Mamdani himself accountable to his own promises. All of these groups didn’t just fail to call for any sort of public pressure on Mamdani or anyone else; they curated (by action or omission) a photo opportunity for future Mamdanis at the cost of meaningful action in solidarity with Palestine. All as the person who has orchestrated this genocide from beginning to end spoke in the building beside them. GSC has published plenty of critiques on NGOs and their shortcomings. We’ve also written on social media about the impact of JVP’s work and claims — you can read a couple of recent posts here. Our Substack is currently running a series, as you’ll know, studying JVP’s specific rhetorical strategies with regard to anti-zionism in the wake of this ongoing genocide. I know folks appreciate these insights. But more than ever, it feels clear to me that we need to ask why Palestinian figures and organizations continue to make way for these NGOs, to lend their names and credibility to them by asking for their endorsements, and to step aside when they want to carry out actions with no function except that of photographs and public arrests — imagery. These organizations are accountable to all of us — not just Palestinians, and certainly not just Palestinians in the diaspora. If an organization wants to cede ground to those that would turn a genocidaire’s visit into a political advertisement for milquetoast DSA candidates, the responsibility falls on others to either 1) demand an answer for why that is the case, and 2) organize the next protest themselves. This is not acceptable. Three years into a genocide, it is time to find ways to be brave and be disruptive, not continue business as usual.
To hell with imagery, it’s a genocide

To hell with imagery, it’s a genocide

A few updates from us; and, as the situation on the ground escalates, it’s time to move beyond imagery that bolsters the careers of promise-breaking politicians.

The West wants Netanyahu gone - so Palestinians can be killed more quietly again Trump, nosediving in the polls and bristling over a disastrous war on Iran, needs a scapegoat – and the Israeli prime minister best fits the bill Benjamin Netanyahu’s whirlwind visit to the United States last week to address the United Nations General Assembly was further evidence that the Israeli prime minister is now a universal pariah. He is being abandoned even by his closest allies. It was perhaps not surprising that 77 nations, including a handful of European states, walked out of the chamber in protest that a wanted war crimes suspect - a fugitive from the International Criminal Court (ICC) - was being given a platform to speak on the world’s largest stage. Far more notable was what happened - or rather, didn’t - away from the podium. Netanyahu spent just eight hours in the US before heading back to Israel. It is hard to believe that that was his choice. He was denied his usual moment in the sun with Donald Trump at the White House, and could not even secure a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

UK Green Party recognises Zionism as a form of racism and backs single Palestinian state The Green Party of England and Wales has voted to declare Zionism a form of racism in an unprecedented move at its party conference in Brighton, Middle East Eye has learnt. The vote by party members on Sunday makes it the first major party in the UK to recognise Zionism as a form of racism - and to back a single democratic Palestinian state with equal rights for all ethnic and religious groups, rather than a two-state solution. 1,022 members voted for the motion while 813 voted against it. Co-Deputy Leader Mothin Ali told Middle East Eye on Sunday that he was strongly in favour of the motion, unlike Green MPs Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay, who criticised it. “As defined in the motion,” Ali said, “Zionism is an ethno-nationalist state. Zionism is resulting in ethnic cleansing, in the belief that one group of people is superior to another.”

World’s largest nursing union cuts ties with Israeli drugmaker Teva The world’s largest nursing union, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), has cut ties with Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva over its links to the country’s military and a long record of corruption and bribery scandals. Following the decision, the RCN removed Teva UK as a sponsor and partner of an upcoming event at the union’s headquarters in London. Pro-Palestine groups hailed the move as “a major breakthrough” for the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel over the Gaza genocide and its apartheid policies in the occupied West Bank. The RCN, which represents nearly 600,000 nurses, acted after Nurses for Palestine and UK Healthcare Petitions to Royal Colleges (UKHPRC) campaigned against the partnership. In a public letter, nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals warned that Teva UK is “entangled with the Israeli military, part of the institutional apparatus of apartheid and responsible for corporate malfeasance”.

Israel kills eight in Gaza as ceasefire violations continue a year on Israeli forces killed at least eight Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday as ceasefire violations continued a year after the agreement was signed. An Israeli air strike hit a civilian transport vehicle in the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood of western Gaza City, killing five people and wounding 15 others, including women and children. The strike hit a cart attached to a minibus used to transport passengers amid severe fuel shortages and soaring transport costs across the enclave. Such vehicles are often packed with dozens of people travelling between different areas of the Strip.

LLM’s can save tremendous time now. You see projects like C&C Generals running on a tablet, or Lego Racers on web which would require tonnes of manual labour and now they’re just a few LLM prompts. It’s gotten to the point these kind of projects which would have been multi-year undertakings in the past have become “unimpressive” Yes they’re not perfect and they do make mistakes. That’s why understanding architecture is more important than ever. But manual coding is really becoming a thing of the past. Agentic coding progress over the last year has pretty much solidified that. It’s still not perfect but it’s really good now.

Israel bans Arab parties from election: Who they are, why it matters Israel’s Central Elections Committee has voted to bar the country’s two main Arab-majority political lists from next month’s parliamentary election, potentially leaving Palestinian citizens of Israel without their principal representatives in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset. The committee also voted to disqualify Ofer Cassif, a Jewish politician from the Arab-Jewish Hadash party, and Sami Abu Shehadeh, the leader of the Palestinian nationalist Balad party. The decision followed petitions by the right-wing parties, Likud and Otzma Yehudit, which accused the parties and candidates of denying Israel’s existence as a Jewish and democratic state, supporting armed struggle against Israel or inciting racism.

On one hand you don’t know what the code is doing but on the other hand it’s impossible to write so much code by hand and do any amount of testing for projects this big LLM code is getting less sloppy and you now have the choice between generating open-source projects which you will never read the code of, or using an artisan coded buggy project. Nobody has the time to test every single communication protocol manually to see when a camera is able to take pictures or a microphone records audio. LLM’s can do this driver development and even check when the result looks good.

Finkelstein opposed BDS for a very long time and has had many other major flaws. His arguments are generally very weak And he doesn’t push the boundary on anything very much. The only thing he’s got going for him, opposed to all the Palestinians and brown people you never heard about, is that he’s a white Jewish guy. So when he says the thing they have been saying for ten years, ten years later, he suddenly sounds very smart and intellectual. Listening to Finkelstein repeatedly saying “the atrocities of October 7” over and over again makes me cringe. That’s not to say that Finkelstein is bad as a whole, I think he’s a net positive for the Palestinian cause, but he certainly isn’t this epic frontrunner-based guy you think he is.

Issues of licensing and stolen code, potentially causing copyright problems which most open-source projects are poorly fit to resolve and may go down because of them What, we care about licenses and copyright now? Big tech has stolen all code and now everything it “open source”. You’re not going to get into legal trouble for using LLM generated code there’s no precedent for that. The only ones getting sued are the big tech companies who stole the code.

Maduro has turned out to be a massive hack most of the actual lefties have abandoned him. The abduction theater was obviously coordinated and now Venezuela is an American neocolony. There was so much cope of Delcy Rodriguez for a while but I guess most people gave up on that. If you’re talking about him criticizing China and Russia for not blocking the UNSC resolution giving Palestine to Gaza, yeah he was right about that. Norman is not an exceptionally great figure on Palestine. A Liberal Zionist for most of his life and still pretty soft on rhetoric, frequently calling october 7 “atrocities”. A Liberal Zionist at best if you compare him to the rhetoric of actual Palestinians which will just voice full throated support for the heroic Al Aqsa Flood operation. BadEmpada is much better than Norman. I’d wager their influence is about equal. He has also denied the Argentina’s long-running genocide of Black Argentinians. Which is a fake reactionary topic as he explained quite well in his video about it. I recommend watching it if you actually believe it.
