However the strike is only featured as the end of the movie for a few seconds only. Only one worker/activist is seen as actually doing something (Sarah Chapman, a real person), but...

Enola 2 uses an important landmark of women workers activism as a background for the story: the "matchgirls' strike" of 1888.

Instead of showing on screen collective workers fight, the movie is only about intrigues, murder and love.

It was known at the time that white phosphorus would affect the workers' jaws - which is hinted at during the movie. Factory owners just simply didn't care.

I guess it's a common issue with fictionalized accounts of historical events. But I thought it was disappointing for several reasons.

Sarah Chapman thus isn't portray as worker advocate and activist, but instead she was turned into the secret lover to the son of the matchmaking factory owner, helping her seek justice. Even worst, in the end, she only manage to get political support because she meets Enola and her love interest.

Sherlock even concludes, about that love interest/politician: "he learned how to fight", when the factory scandal is exposed. Collective fight is almost totally ignored.

The "medical" story line is also a bit strange. It's also heavily fictionalized. I have a feeling that they got inspired by the much later radium girls story.

It's kinda implausible, but portraying the gaslighting that did happened in similar cases is interesting (that's where I feel they got inspired by the radium girls story?)

Sarah Chapman is also described as making some experiments to prove the toxic nature of the white phosphorus used in the factory (total fiction). But that doesn't seem to have any impact, in the end. Even the strike is led by her little sister somehow. Her portrayal is kinda sad honestly. And that's the end a way too long toot.
