@karl@infosec.exchange @soatok@furry.engineer find your local harm reduction service, comp them a table, and they will generally be THERE unless they have a previous scheduling conflict. free mobile events are big part of their mission so they really just need an invite to set up somewhere. so its really just they need an invite, like vampires, because they're going to steal your blood for a snap test. they'll also usually bring condoms, lube, dental dams, drug test strips, and NARCAN. (yes I have invited these to many events. plus had them do monkeypox vaccinations at events)

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop we have a solar farm here (connecticut) that is built on top of a sealed & capped landfill. rather than putting in foundations (that could pop the cap on landfill) its on huge blocks on top of soil. If it gets moved via ground settling, they unhook a panel and relevel the block. and then have the area fenced in and mow it once in spring before bird nesting and once in late fall. That keeps shrubs from getting established that can shad ethe panels or have roots break the cap. so it effectively stays as a protected bird meadow while sealing away contaminations for decades ago AND generating power. Truly great reuse of an industrial site that was both unbuildable & was not being upkept safely to stay sealed before the panels went in. there's so many great options to do infill like this in brownfields and turn them into small pockets of nature reserve

@fluffgar@mastodon.scot @susankayequinn@wandering.shop we've got a similar set up here and they mow around the panels twice a year (timed around bird nesting) because its on top of a capped landfill. Mowing makes sure that shrubs and trees with root systems that could break the containment structure can't get established. keeps it safe for the wildlife to keep the ground contamination firmly underground! so mowing occasionally may still be relevant for some of these places for similar reasons OR to keep invasive shrubs from getting established. Some more active management is sometimes required to beat back invasive species, but its still going to be only a few times per year instead of a standard "make it like a lawn" schedule
