mastodon 4.7.3Project account for Encyclia, the bridge that connects ORCID to the Fediverse. Created by @julian@fietkau.social.
Check out the website to learn more: https://encyclia.pub
This account is a temporary home – we're waiting for the next @hollo@hollo.social version, then we'll (probably) move. 🙂
The day has come: Encyclia.pub is launching its alpha test! https://encyclia.pub/alpha 😲
A few courageous volunteers have made their ORCID records available on the Fediverse. Click the link for the full list and consider following some of them!
The intent of the alpha test is to verify interoperability and functionality, and to monitor performance and server resource use.
Reminder: Encyclia bridges ORCID records into the Fediverse. See https://encyclia.pub for details. 🙂
Encyclia is mentioned (and linked) in this @riffreporter@mastodon.social article by @pikarl@reporter.social, in German: https://www.riffreporter.de/de/technik/hochschulen-fediverse-mastodon-wissenschaftskommunikation-social-media
It's a thorough survey of how universities in German-speaking countries currently engage with the fediverse. A very interesting read. Thank you for the shout-out!
Development update:
I just posted the first change to the progress tracker in a while. https://encyclia.pub/roadmap#progress
Integration work for PostgreSQL and parity with SQLite is now mostly finished, only performance still needs fine-tuning. This means that large Encyclia deployments can use a “real” hosted database, while small installations can run off just the file system. 🙂 Encyclia has also started using the LogTape library by @hongminhee@hollo.social.
We're getting perilously close to the alpha test! 😲
RE: https://vmst.io/@mergebot/115537656505836666
One Encyclia alpha tester asked about a situation where making a trivial change to an old publication would insert it at the top of the followers' feeds.
This appears to have been an unintended behavior in Mastodon, where a federated update to an old object would appear as new if the object was not known to the Mastodon server beforehand.
Going by the below Mastodon code change, this problem should be fixed in Mastodon 4.6.
