@mcc@mastodon.social i see people get so irritated by the misuse of ‘ai’ but it’s in turn so irritating to me, bc that confusion is wholly caused by the companies themselves!

@mcc@mastodon.social this is really why i hate the assumption that seems prevalent in software that everything will always be connected to the internet
please... please don't make me join your discord to look up help for the game im stuck in... please just have a website, somewhere...
it's actually incredibly funny that almost everyone rejects AI as a thing and the entire monied class and people who desperately want to be a part of it are showing that they have zero taste by how baffled they are at people rejecting it
ugh okay, archive.today sites are unfortunately clearly no longer reliable as sources https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/02/wikipedia-bans-archive-today-after-site-executed-ddos-and-altered-web-captures/
my first time making hummus came out okay!
the emperor has no clothes, but we'll fix that in the next model revision
do you ever think about how integral COINTELPRO is to our understanding of the US goverment and how it treats activist groups, but we only know about it because an activist group burglarized an FBI field office and if they hadn't, it would be considered an unhinged conspiracy theory?

even if i didn't think this felt a little uhhhh sus... i think anyone who works at palantir should be punished with as much social stigma as possible

@mcc makes sense, the former sounds like an actual business model, not a way to accumulate so much wealth you can use it to grasp the levers of power
does anyone else who pays more than average attention to news and tech stuff find that when they try to tell loved ones about issues with those things, the reaction is mostly 'why did you tell me that, now im just scared'
so if the 'ai revolution' IS a political project aimed at disciplining labor, do you think the bubble bursting will cause programmers to realize they should actually treat themselves as labor and unionize* or is there still too much hubris in the field for that lesson to sink in
*assuming this bubble isn't what finally destroys the US economy irreparably. which is a big assumption
wirecutter but for diy projects
hold on
are ring cameras actually vulnerable to wi-fi deauth attacks
wtf that's so fucking funny
lately it feels like every week we get deeper and deeper into what historians call "the cool zone"
it'll be so funny when we have to bring back phone books
finally gonna be able to start having these on all the music videos i have on my plex/osmc. im so excited
finished foundation and empire. good fuckin book
silently repeating to myself "the only way out of anxiety is through"
i still can't wait for the aesthetics of tech to swing back around to 'vaguely tank-like'
i mean i'm sure i'll hate the end result but man do i want a computer that doesn't feel like i'll snap it if i look at it wrong
nasa moon launch is happening now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf_UjBMIzNo

my last boost: great essay on both on a specific argument that i hear people make, and the general problem of who these debates and discussions are centering and how if we don't internalize audre lorde's ACTUAL argument, we can't win this fight
i think this should be required reading for anyone interested in this stuff

would be interested in any mutual aid yoga or general fitness classes in the seattle area, now that the weather gets nice, if anyone knows of any or can point me in the right direction!
and if none exist (in seattle or where ever you are) and youre a current or former fitness instructor who believe in mutual aid and dual power, have you considered trying to organize one for the people in your area?

@mcc@mastodon.social this has been one of the biggest advantages of ebooks to me (besides the economy of space)
i AM feeling less stressed except periodically my body is just like "time to have your heart beat fast and feel short of breath! just makin' sure you're still paying attention :)"
which is not very fun

@xgranade@wandering.shop oh, hah, i didn't realize you were local to me! but yeah, that's exactly what i was thinking of

@npdoty@techpolicy.social okay first reaction: nice! reaction after seeing the image: that's sick as hell
spaceship aesthetics
also i spent SO long on that image description, which was worth it, but im still annoyed at how that description has no real metadata retention that i'm going to finally at least do a thing with my ebook library where i can just SAVE the dang text for the cover description for easy use later.

@eramdam much love to you but i hope the iphone pictures are the least cool part of the future moon landing lmao

@xgranade@wandering.shop totally fair, i talk about them often enough lol, and i do try to use my home as a community space when i can, but even then we try to be pretty careful about inviting people who we trust and requesting them to test before risking exposing a whole group
Replying to
@xgranade@wandering.shop like, my main concern is less COVID even than air/smoke pollution (since im on the west coast) and allergies
Replying to
@xgranade@wandering.shop im definitely concerned about COVID particulary in community spaces, but I think for personal use filtration would cover the vast majority of my needs, and i'd be a little worried about trying to do too much/the perfect being the enemy of the good in this case, especially since diy purifiers might be significantly CHEAPER but i don't think they're really CHEAP yet
Replying to
@xgranade@wandering.shop yeah, the thing about COVID is like, within our own home its relatively simple to manage risk, since to a large extent we have control over who enters the space, but with wildfires, generally the option is choking on smoke or cooking in heat, neither of which are very pleasant
wanted to look up a cloth coffee filter for my friend as a possible gift and why are there like six different variations that all look basically the same

@amorphophalex@mastodon.social it's always been a problem-- i remember reading about how awful the fashion industry is about this, and how a lot of haute couture culture and brading is to try and mitigate it-- but it definitely feels like its only accelerated to even more untenable levels in the past couple of decades as the internet has become more and more our primary way of interfacing with the world
Replying to
@evacide@hachyderm.io my coworkers and i at the library were all talking about how this will ALSO happen at libraries
Replying to
@mcc@mastodon.social there's also the fact that many people will likely try to anticipate what trump wants based on his public statements, in hopes of currying favor in order to advance
Replying to
@mcc@mastodon.social as well as people doing things that trump doesn't care about simply because they know there will be more room to do things without consequence. we saw that a LOT during his last administration

@sysadmin1138@ngmx.com not in tech but have had a rough enough couple of weeks specifically with being neurodivergent at work that i really appreciate getting to read this and recognize some part of myself in it <3
