There is no such thing as a "self reliant" or "self made" person. Every one of us was raised by other people and still benefits from the collective actions of society.

USB C failed to learn the real mistake of USB: it's not that it isn't reversible, the problem is that USB does communicate it's asymetry.
No one ever complains about a HDMI being hard to plug in, because it's obvious just by looking at it which way it goes.
The new problem with USB C is that it doesn't communicate its capabilities. Some don't transfer data, some support high speed video, some support high wattage, but most of the time it's impossible to know just by looking at the cable.
