mastodon 4.7.2We are a group of volunteers in Edinburgh trying to help people regain ownership of their devices from Microsoft by installing Linux. We run Linux Install Parties once a month. The next one is on 10th October at Duncan Place Community Hub from 1:30pm. Booking and details at https://events.humanitix.com/linux-install-party-duncan-place-20261010
Hello! We are Edinburgh Linux Cafe, joining Mastodon was something we meant to do for a while but never got around to. We are a small but dedicated group helping people to install Linux on their laptops. Our interests are Linux (obviously), repair, reuse, and bicycles. Amazing to see that we have actually been mentioned already (👋 @DoomsdaysCW@kolektiva.social )!

We had a great time on Saturday at the latest Linux Install Party! 7 people came along with their devices, including some needing support with existing Linux devices. Some new friends dropped in for a chat or to see how they could get involved, including a representative from the local Ubuntu UK group.
Thanks to @ootbdrillhall.bsky.social and the Make Space initiative for making the venue available.
Our next event is on 18th July, 1pm - 4pm at Out of the Blue Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street, Edinburgh. Our use of the venue is generously funded by the Make Space initiative, so please help us make it a success by telling all your Linux-curious friends and family about it!

@humanhorseshoes@mastodon.world 🤣 I wasn't even thinking about what OS it was running, just that this was something I would do.
@humanhorseshoes@mastodon.world glad to hear that, but either missed or forgotten the context?
Still plenty of places available at tomorrow's Linux Cafe! If you have an old laptop that can't support Windows, bring it along and we can help you bring it back to life. Details at https://events.humanitix.com/linux-install-party-out-of-the-blue-drill-hall-180726
