Oh, this is cool! New rust-analyzer command. "rust-analyzer: Evaluate Predicate" Then type in the type and bound and it'll tell you whether it holds. So, you don't have to go through source code anymore. #rustlang

Final part of my async blog!

https://tweedegolf.nl/en/blog/237/async-rust-never-left-the-mvp-state

Last time I shared some tips for improving your async code. Now we look at why the compiler doesn't do it for us.

I want to fix it in the compiler, but I need your help! If you can help with funding, reach out to me.

Please share :)

RE: @tweedegolf@fosstodon.org

Is your async too fat? You can trim it down with these tips!

Please share as I've noticed not many people are aware of this. This is also just part 1 of a 2 part series. Part 2 should be out soon!

RE: @tweedegolf@fosstodon.org

I'll be at RustWeek too!

I'd love to talk with you all about my OSS project like device-driver or my async optimization plans, but also any general embedded Rust topic :)

So if you see me around, feel free to walk up!

@chrysn Could? Well yes of course in the literal sense of the word. Futures have surprisingly few guarantees, so them being lazy is one of the only ones. If I were to guess, you would not get consensus on this. Luckily you can do it manually fairly easily: fn foo() -> impl Future { // Eager sync stuff ... async { // Deferred async stuff ... } }

@cliffle also, I remember you tweeting about some stats you gathered about the scraping and such. Maybe just turn off those metrics. Ignorance is bliss 🙂

@epage https://epage.github.io/dev/rust-style/#m-type-assoc Enum should go under the impl bar. Now Bar is split with the enum in the middle. Feels wrong. I think that's all...

Anybody know why rust-analyzer is showing me an extra '/' in the inline doc view?

This happens when I generate code using the doc attr and with '///'.

Rustdoc is rendering it fine, so... RA bug?

Just wanna make sure I'm not missing anything before I open an issue :)

@epage cool, nice writeup! I'll say that I wouldn't like this style to be enforced on the code I produce. Some of the item ordering stuff seems a little too strict to me and I have slight disagreements. I also think it's fine for lib and mod to contain more than just reexports, within some definition of reason of course. But I'd definitely accept PRs like this into my codebases! It's not too far off from what I naturally already do

@epage yeah fair! But like I said, I'm not opposed to these guidelines. Just small disagreements and it seems like you're more relaxed about them than the writeup suggested (to me). For someone new to Rust they're good tips

@chrysn You still create a future object with a poll function. And then in poll you return the value

This whole Rust project LLM policy thing is weird.

It seems they're gonna err on the side of not allowing or limiting LLM generated contributions, except there's this 'experiment' thing that would allow veterans to use LLMs regardless.

To me that seems like a cop-out to keep some people happy

I've been successfully nerdsniped, so here is sequential-storage version 8.0.0: https://crates.io/crates/sequential-storage Most notable are changes in caching and a new page state cache that has a fixed 24 byte cost instead of 1 byte per flash page. So it's great for large storages and has almost the same perf.
