@dsalo one "mental prybar" that has been somewhat useful of late:
ask people to imagine a world where everyone gets followed by their own personal cop. the cop doesn't pull you over unless you break a law; they just follow at a distance. watching. always watching. writing down what you do in a log.
then, just prompt with questions: would that make YOU safer? would that make you FEEL safer? feel good about going to a protest? feel good about meeting up with a trans friend when their cop and your cop start exchanging notes? can you understand why surveillance would make people who are targeted by police abuses worried?
tends to make the nature of ubiquitous surveillance more crispy clear; clarifies how it differs from police surveillance 30 years ago; and has also helped a few times to crack open "normal" folks' heads who consider American policing and post-Patriot Act surveillance not problematic
can also extend it to ask "now that cop is using AI to write up their logs, and 5% of the time it is wildly incorrect"
#MadisonWI people, Saturday is Print & Resist at Central Library 11-4! rad art, zines, good stuff.
get there early enough to snag one of my new "Dane County says: FLOCK NO!" minizines from the ACAB Underground peeps, limited edition because I only had time to cut and fold 50... more soon

oof. this one rattled in my fucking bones
on this #transdayofvisibility I would like to say: trans rights are human rights 🏳️⚧️
fuck all the bullies who think trans people don't deserve to be their authentic selves. love to all my trans homies
part of what friends transitioning has taught me is that being fully yourself is often step one on the road to liberation, and shining any light on those steps is Dangerous to the shitfucks that are burning our society alive

@adamgreenfield this has inspired me to finally learn to play it this fast on mellophone
someone dug into their local logs on Falcon video systems and found evidence of Flock Safety employees and VPs (and cops and other unknown actors) watching kids gymnastics and pool cameras: https://jasonhunyar.substack.com/p/why-are-flock-employees-watching-720
how do these shitsucking creeps manage to always outrun my expectations of how low they will go? more good evidence that outsourcing surveillance to silicon valley is somehow EVEN WORSE than letting local cops do whatever they want with no oversight

@Hex dropping by to say thanks for this critique and also that the frame of "freedom vs consent" has already started changing the way I communicate, esp when referencing the Epstein class.
recently I have been saying "freedom from bullying" but centering around the positive angle of consent is great 🤘

@haraldkliems@fosstodon.org I have some jail organizing stuff, or I might have come at that price!
i have grown to love Marge Piercy's work in recent years, especially her poetry
here's a new brutal poem from her, "The daily, nightly news", in the back of this month's Monthly Review: https://monthlyreview.org/articles/the-daily-nightly-news/
