This is hackish, but I find this extremely useful for troubleshooting. I have this in root's crontab as a time marker.
`0 */4 * * * /usr/bin/date > /dev/kmsg`
This way, it doesn't just have timestamps in the logs, but also `dmesg`, where an absolute time is easier than seconds from when it booted up.
