Yi Hui just got laid off from Posit. His markdown resources have been fundamental to a lot of my work in #rstats education, so I’m sponsoring him.

I spent today making a lua filter for quarto that works like the #rstats glossary, but for any language. Just tag your terms like this:
{{< glossary term >}}
It's still rough (I started learning lua 10 hours ago), but you can see my basic progress at https://debruine.github.io/quarto-glossary/
In case it's useful for anyone else, here is the template I send students when they ask for a reference. It's really useful for getting the factual details, especially when I haven't seen the student for a few years, then I can add in evaluation and specific examples.
Reference for {YOUR NAME},
I have known {YOUR NAME, a student in {DEGREE} from the University of Glasgow, since {DATE} in my capacity as their {dissertation supervisor/instructor/etc} and as a professor based in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. I am writing this reference about their suitability for {PROGRAMME} at {LOCATION}.
• Details of thesis title/topic or course content
• Grade on thesis or course (if known)
• Degree classification (if known)
• Any other skills/qualities you want me to emphasise (e.g., R skills, specific topic knowledge, interpersonal skills)
I just got these lovely stickers in the mail from @rlmcelreath@nerdculture.de (they were lost in the uni mail room for a few weeks). I’m excited to add them to my laptop hex section!
I'm starting to wonder if I might have ADHD tendencies. Word takes so long to open files now, I regularly find myself distracted by another task while waiting literally 1-3 minutes for a simple doc file to open off OneDrive, and then remember what I was intending to do 15-60 minutes later. (This, coupled with the horrific search on outlook, is just fatal for my ability to do a bunch of small administrative tasks.)
@DataAngler@vis.social @tanho@fosstodon.org Haha, that's still one I have to reference sometimes when I forget how to do this, but I've also worked out about 10 other ways of doing it. I should re-write that tutorial. (adding to the infinite list...)
@jorgeapenas@ecoevo.social Haha, I did that for years in the early 2000s :) I'd love to move all my workflow to plain text files and markdown > pandoc, but unfortunately working with other people means endless word and excel documents.
