I keep pointing indivdual friends at this great piece so I should probably just share it widely.
@jarrettfuller@mastodon.social on the independence of building with simple, enduring tools. In this case a website:
“I like to think of HTML and CSS like the 2x4 in construction: When the nail gun replaced the hammer or the power drill replaced the screwdriver, they changed the context, speed, and process of building a home—but the 2x4 is still the most stable structure.”

Local friends, I could not be more thrilled that the Harvard Book Store is hosting a launch event for HOW INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS: on Friday, October 20th, and that I’ll be in conversation with my brilliant colleague and Riverhead Books labelmate Sara Hendren, author of WHAT CAN A BODY DO? HOW WE MEET THE BUILT WORLD.
I hope you can join us!

Friends across the pond! I'm delighted to share that Torva is releasing my book in the UK!
"How Infrastructure Works: Transforming Our Shared Systems for a Changing World"
It'll be released on November 2, 2023, but you can pre-order it now from your local bookseller of choice:

The US Mission in India just put out this four-minute year-in-review video starring Ambassador Eric Garcetti (former LA mayor) that must be one of the single best pieces of US government social media I've ever seen -- it's charming, funny, and informative.
One year as U.S. Ambassador to India!

@bernat@social.ei8fdb.org Conventionally, paperbacks come out about a year after the hardcover, so I’d look for it in autumn 2024!

@knack@aus.social If this question is in the abstract, I don't know (I expect it depends on the book contract). If this is intended to be concrete-- ie do I *personally* have a preference where people buy my book? -- the answer is: Wherever you are most happy buying it. [Or not buying it, by borrowing it from a library or a friend.]

@jessamyn@glammr.us The biggest thing, of course, was actually starting to seriously address the visa issue -- it was a disaster, to put it mildly.
