Replying to
@alex@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social that’s true, but at least some big content creators like Someordinarygamers, Louis Rossmann, Techlore and Brodie Robertson who value privacy and open source software have already adapted

@alex@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social I think it’s a vendor lock issue, not one of the alternatives. Most people cannot even imagine that alternatives exist because the mainstream ones sound too good on paper.

@alex@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social I don’t think anyone should build an emotional relationship with a platform. You shouldn’t care care about switching to something else. In the end of the day it has been a tool, not your best friend. That’s the whole illusion of the modern internet. And that’s not sustainable at all.

@alex@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social I mean the major problem of social platforms is that they drain you with so much content that there’s no time left for critical thinking. Most people hate changes just because there’s too much friction in between to switch off to another platform.

@alex@fosstodon.org @Tutanota@mastodon.social If a project is quite new, there’s not much to migrate, which makes the difference. In my opinion especially privacy focused projects should migrate to Codeberg. It came to my attention since I wanted to check where the source code of 2fa by 979 was uploaded. And surprisingly it wasn’t GitHub.

@dickswizzler@mastodon.social @Tutanota@mastodon.social Security checks are meant to preserve privacy, not anonymity. Those are two different types. Everything else would be an attempt on social engineering. And that’s what privacy services should generally avoid.
