I'm six albums into Dolly's solo career, & have heard three songs that stopped me in my tracks, that I've never heard before. In one, she dreams of going to the wedding of her ex lover to throw rice AT the woman who stole him.
In another, she's a student that conspires with fellow students to burn down her abusive boarding school. & now I'm listening to her song of a woman begging her Daddy to come save her from the mental institution her husband has put her in.
Wow. Just... wow.

Told the server at the restaurant last night about it being the 25th anniversary of our meeting. We got this card and surprise dessert at the end of our meal. Note the "Emma" right in the middle (beloved Mama's name). I almost cried.
Since I have little else to do these days, I made a tribute page to my first home: Spottsville, Kentucky. The surprise from my research: Holloway Smith, second African-American student-athlete admitted to Iowa State (Jack Trice was first). Born in Spottsville.

The photos and videos out of Nepal are beyond anything my brain or heart can handle.
The weather was PERFECT for a #motorcycle ride from where we live to Astora and back. The road through Clatsop State Forest is such a winding, gorgeous gem - though no elks for viewing this time. Lots of motorcyclists out.
Cody Roberts, 44, of Wyoming, is a piece of human filth. And District Judge Richard Lavery isn't much better.
So I want to make sure to get their names out there for Internet searches.

Anyone out there still care about inclusion? About practices that help provide equitable, meaningful access to opportunities & resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized?
It feels like not. But if you do, join this subreddit & post resources!

Delicious fish tacos today in Astoria, Oregon at the Astoria Brewing Company, on a gorgeous Saturday sitting outside, looking at the water. The crazy thing: the restaurant wasn't half full. Some restaurants we passed were empty! Where was everyone?!
It's FINALLY going to happen. 17 years after arriving in Oregon, I will finally go to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In June. A Midsummer Night's Dream (will be hard to top the Mark Lamos version) & Come From Away (watch on AppleTV if you have such).
I am so happy!!!
The White House Correspondents Association says, "We work to ensure a strong free press & robust coverage of presidency."
& later this month, they will honor the current President, who has worked against having a free press & robust coverage of presidency.
The WHCA is a joke.
Instead of applying for jobs, I watched "Rental Family."
Definitely the better choice. What a gorgeous movie in every way.
Have you used my free grading system to measure the ROI of a volunteer activity at your nonprofit? Let me know! I created it from my own work working with #volunteers (& having to push back against someone wanting to get rid of volunteer involvement).

Wow. A nonprofit providing such essentials shutting down so suddenly.. This hurts a LOT of families.
The thing I loathe about being the moderator of the Philanthropy discussion group on Reddit is the haters of Philanthropy & any charitable act that post there. & I swear, EVERY time, you look at their profile and they are crypto supporters &/or anti-trans people. Every. Time.
Giving up on the inclusion subreddit. I've posted about it on my social media channels SO SO much. But no interest. Has the war on DEI made folks too afraid to talk about it, or was all the previous support of inclusion just talk because it was a flavor of the day?

In 1941, Irving Berlin wrote this song as a protest piece against H*tler.
This band posted their version eight years ago.
Suddenly, it's VERY popular again.
I wonder why.

I thought we were going to post about Dolly all week.
I didn't want to return to the regular doom-and-gloom newsfeed/timeline...
Today, getting started with... insults from Shakespeare.

Every department head at a nonprofit, & most other staff too, should have this in their job description: "identify tasks & roles for #volunteers in your work & support volunteers engaged by our organization, as appropriate." & be evaluated yearly on this.

US Citizen? Planning a career in international humanitarian affairs? You might want to rethink it.
For all of this month, each week, I'm going to write a blog focused on working in international humanitarian affairs and community development. This is part one of that series. If you're a US citizen with the goal of working in international humanitarian affairs or community development, even disaster relief, in impoverished regions not in the USA, it's time to pick a…

You should always be prepared to justify why a position is volunteer (unpaid) rather than a paid consultant or employee - & the justification should never only be "We can't afford to pay all these people for this work."

25 years ago today, I was living in Germany, but on vacation in Ireland, & this day, I met a German guy, a motorcycle traveler, at a guest house in Slane. I'd just visited New Grange, he was going the next day. We're married now, living in Oregon, still adventuring via motorcycle. Here's our anniversary gift to ourselves.

The first results on many searches are AI. & the results are so often laughable. Today, I typed in "What's the best software for...." And I got a recommendation: "The best software for... is Such-and-Such." And I laughed. Because that software was discontinued four years ago.
I'm in Oregon and would REALLY LOVE to teleport to a Waffle House right now.
Terrific UN job opportunity: Crisis Communications Officer, Papua New Guinea, 12 months (with possibility of extension). I know the word "volunteer" is there, because it's a UNV contract, but the reality is that you receive a salary and your role is FULLY professional.
