Concerning #cookiebanners:
1. Everyone involved has "legitimate interest", even mafia, marketing and intelligence agencies. It's not an excuse.
2. Needing to check boxes to object is opt-out, i.e. *on* by default. Considering the purpose, this is clearly a #DarkPattern and false impression/implication if everything else is turned off to be off.

Firefox has started to do some sandboxing by compiling independent libraries that process user content, such as image-processors, with RLBox, into wasm then to C such that the result is safe and self-contained by necessity. This is an interesting approach. It is a nice application of transcompilation.

I initially misunderstood, thinking that RLBox provided an encapsulating layer around the lib.

To some local people: I need to talk (later) to that one (crying?) individual who seems caught up in the middle of this ridiculous abusive shitshow. But first, I need to know how you are involved and how you are related to the many malicious and abusive participants in the matter.

Edit: I mean someone who seems to be trying to help while the effort is constantly sabotaged.

Edit: I very clearly did not say "I need permission to talk". 🤨🖕🏻

I wish there is one repository that houses all mathematics formula, shorthands, proofs and whatnot. That gets extended every time new known formulations, solutions, etc. get discovered. That would include practical formulations like short-hand computations that hold under special circumstances. One repo anyone can check out and contribute to whenever mathematics are concerned.

To some non-abusive local people: there is a lot of manipulation and deception at play. I fight back and respond to point out and emphasize the ridiculous amount of malicious practices in play. It never was a local event of some 15 people. Most people do not have a clue of the complete story and the amount of bullshit at work.

In American movies, a bleeding nose usually hints at brain damage or brain trauma of some kind, with physical manifestation as nose bleed. In Japanese anime, it hints at horny thoughts.

So if some guy in a movie or series has premonitions or visions, then shakes and drops to the ground, exhibiting nose bleeds. You never quite know what he saw or experienced. 🤔🤫

It's also interesting how every solution provided on time is either not good enough, the "wrong" solution, cheating or otherwise incorrect. Or it is provided "too late" which usually means it evolved and they saw it was going to work so they staged a scenario in which it proved to work "just after the deadline", or it is dismissed with a cheap excuse, usually because it proved a more critical matter that wasn't at all desirable to acknowledge.

It seems that user-namespaces are always a trade-off of pros and cons, whether you choose to use them, use them only for privileged, or not at all. Granted, I consider specifically the benefits to sandboxing. Still, the matter that it creates an isolation specifically for users and then have syscalls/kernel think it's a general system-namespace privileged call, is just tricky.

It is underatandable that there are paths and edge cases that might run into privilege escalation. I understand that this is a highly complex piece of software. Then not having the possibility to set a capabilities mask for the functionality you certainly do not want/need, is really just a missed opportunity.

@dave my take of the current state: in general, rust is an interesting language. As a long-time dev C++ dev you'll run into the borrow checker because of the extra rules it imposes, which you aren't used to, but makes more constraints enforcible early on. Alternatively, Zig is gaining traction, for not imposing excess restrictions (could be a loss) but instead making everything explicit incl. heap allocations. Larger projects usually benefit from having few surprises. In case you're curious.

To some abusive people: the right called 'right to privacy' is about the ability to protect information being an inherent part of the individual.

The fact that I disclose that a public document exists, is independent of any malicious action you take based on this information. It is silly to be "extraordinarily protective" of inherently public information that is easily locatable, recognizable and identifiable.

Your malicious actions are your own.

Stop pretending those "rules" have any meaning. They only ever use them when it is convenient for abuse. They manipulate with "alternative meanings" "alternative explanations" or by simply forgetting they exist. They are cheap excuses for abuse and nothing more. And if they work against them, they refuse or deny or ignore.

@alip@mastodon.online I don't understand your point here. How is stack-unwinding killed, do you mean in your specific case? In my understanding, this is internal to the program and its stack. What mechanisms exist to stop this process depends a lot on language characteristics. Maybe my model of stack-unwinding is idealized due to both Java and Go having more elaborate runtimes. Rust's panic is "basic" as it cannot even be halted reliably (yet). (Disclaimer: maybe more than basic is not desirable.)

@alip@mastodon.online sure, I understand stack unwinding. It essentially executes no more code, but instead returns from all calls without further logical execution, so stack memory is just dropped as is, as you traverse up the stack, and finally exit as you return out of the main function. My comprehension ends with the intricacies of syscalls and your precise challenges with memory handling.

@alip@mastodon.online right, this I get. So, I know that without std you need to define your own handler and strategy for panicking. I'd imagine you need that to succeed, as panicking is an established effort. Can you override and define a safer alt? Avoiding all of it is rather tricky, I can imagine. I wouldn't even know if there is a custom strategy to define that allows for more safety in this.

Note: at this point, I'm trying to reason along, from my own knowledge. I don't know Syd, so isn't specific.

@alip@mastodon.online what I mean is that such stack unwinding mechanisms often have a graceful interruption opportunity. However, in case of panic this isn't (yet) available. Therefore, you can only use it to express "unrecoverable errors" and as such you would spawn a new process from an external supervisor. In case of, for example, Java errors/exceptions, one can catch and mitigate/respond at a different (architectural) layer.

@alip@mastodon.online I was indeed curious about recovering on the main thread, i.e. after a 'panic' has occurred. For example: "catching" like one does with exceptions or 'defer recover()' in Go like installing an emergency handler to evaluate and mitigate an occurrence in progress.

@alip@mastodon.online come to think of it, panic is still not properly recoverable, right? So it is used for any error or edge case that isn't supported. This is a fundamentally different need and assumption from unsafe.

@alip@mastodon.online to add some nuance: I think you mean that the consequences of the panic unwinding the stack, right? Where open handles and variables, etc may not be fully predictable.

In basis, the unwrap() itself is a plain action with known behavior, as opposed to manually maintained possibly precarious or misunderstood situation. (I have to admit that I am not completely convincing myself.)

@Matthijs85 IIUC, a lot of cases of abuses have (revealed to have) a significant religious component at the root. This is just another indicator of religious obsessive (abusive) control. A predominant aspect of current religions is that morals cannot exist without it, while exactly religion is typically involved in atrocities. When does religion become delusion become societal crisis, instead of "guiding" "principle"? #ChatControl #Privacy

@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon@mastodon.social that's not quite fair. We have also discovered a lot about hygiene, preventing disease, food, hormones, vitamins, healthy and unhealthy practices. It is known that vaccines that prevent the deadliest diseases actually work. But, I don't know, for instance, if there are (known) side-effects that are taken for granted because they were preferable to likely death. And we know part of the medical world operates within a conflict of interest.
