Businesses need to start banning smart glasses with cameras or at least require the cameras to be covered with tape.

If you are going to have smart devices, put them on their own VLAN. They should not have access to the rest of your network. TVs shouldn't be connected at all. Use a PC or android box if you want to stream stuff.

You still have to be careful on Linux. Some windows malware can run on Wine. Don’t open any .exe, .com, .bat, .lnk or .reg files. Watch out for files with two extensions. Some_movie.mkv.exe is guaranteed to be malware. That’s done to trick windows users since the file extension is hidden by default for some stupid reason.

I never used netflix either. Their DRM won’t let me watch in 1080p because I’m not using a spyware infested browser and OS. Back when they had a good selection, my internet was too slow to stream HD video anyways.

My laptop is 192x54 in the virtual terminal and 190x47 in Gnome Terminal. Whatever program you write definitely needs to support an 80 column display though. A 5" phone screen is going to need a much larger font than a 14" laptop screen.

That would work if you can open the case without breaking it. Modern TVs are usually clipped together and the bezels are really thin. It’s very easy to crack the panel when trying to get the case apart.

To reduce the heat, look for a newer, more energy efficient computer. The i5-6500 is a 10 year old, 65 watt CPU. That’s probably not the best to run in a small closet without ventilation.

Making a gun is already illegal in California and Washington. This stupid law won't make any difference. If someone is willing to break the law to make a gun, they probably are not going to follow this law either. 3D printed guns are rarely used to commit crimes anyways. It takes a lot of time and effort to get one to work well. This is probably about companies like Bamboo Labs wanting an excuse to lock down printers even more. It will also make it difficult or impossible for smaller companies to sell 3D printers in California to get rid of competition.

I would be happy to have any fiber at all. The only options here are satellite and DSL. The DSL is basically unusable and only available to existing customers. I'm pretty sure the ISP wants to make everyone cancel so they don't have to maintain the copper lines anymore.

If you bought the game, all you would have to do is click install and Steam would have done all of the setup for you. If you pirate, then you have to do that work yourself. It's not particularly difficult, but it takes more than just double clicking on an exe file.

In that case, it should be disposed of like an SSD that contains sensitive information. Find the flash chips and either drill holes through them or smash them into dust with a big hammer.

You need to find out if your ISP supports prefix delegation. A /64 will only give you one subnet. An ISP should supply a /56 if your router requests it. There are some bad ISPs out there that won't though.

An IPv6 subnet must be /64. Anything else breaks stuff. If you want a separate network for guests or IoT devices, a single /64 won't be enough because it can't be divided up any smaller.

Modern operating systems don't use the MAC address for SLAAC. They generate a completely random address. You can choose a stable address or a temporary one that will change frequently for more privacy. You can also use both, IPv6 allows multiple addresses on one device.

SLAAC won't work with a smaller subnet. Static addressing is not an option since your /64 is going to be dynamically assigned. That leaves DHCPv6, which won't work with any android devices or chromebooks. It would be best to just run IPv6 on one network if you can't at least get a /60.

For a NAS, you can use Backblaze B2, but they certainly aren't the cheapest. B2 doesn't have the limitations that the personal and business plans have, but you pay by the TB. There are lots of cloud backup providers. Just make sure it supports the OS on your NAS. Any of them that claim to be unlimited will not truly be unlimited.

There are ways to obfuscate VPN traffic that’s resistant to DPI. It makes it look like normal HTTPS traffic. That will make completely blocking VPNs difficult. I’m sure even more effective obfuscation methods will be developed if VPN blocking becomes widespread.

There are cheap USB cable testers that will tell you what pins are connected and what speed the e marker chip reports. Actually measuring the bandwidth of the cable requires some expensive test equipment though.

Setting a BIOS password doesn’t really do much good. Someone can just unplug the CMOS battery and the password will be cleared. Even if it was stored in flash, it could be removed by erasing it with a flash programmer and flashing a new BIOS.

All of the Raspberry Pi models have hardware decoding. Even a Pi 1B will play a 30 mbps 1080p bluray rip. I used to run OpenELEC on a 1B. The interface on XBMC was really laggy, but h.264 videos played smoothly. You need a Pi 4 or newer for h.265 hardware decoding. The Pi 3 has enough power to software decode some h.265 videos. The video player you use needs to be compiled specifically for a Raspberry Pi for the hardware decoding to work though.
