@joe@f.duriansoftware.com I have a slow-simmering essay (maybe someday I’ll get it out) that sort of “rhymes” with that: what if as developers of software we understood ourselves to be stewards of what we have made, recognizing that we have a responsibility to the people who have come to depend on what we have built? On the one hand, I hate how backwards-compatibility-forever distorts Windows. On the other, I deeply *respect* it. And I wonder if the distortion is inherent or “just” a failing of the implementation.
