Essentializing AI—reducing it to something intrinsically good or bad—depoliticizes technology and enables capital to maintain control. Debating AI "in itself" obscures the fundamental material question: who owns the computational infrastructure? This erasure of the "who" circumvents the political problem of collectively appropriating the means of production.

The translation of the text "The Fourth Memory" (La quatrième mémoire), co-authored with Yves Citton for the excellent journal Transit. Many thanks to @hannesbajohr, Ambika Siddhanta Athreya, and Kayla Rose van Kooten.
Every technology creates its own nostalgia because we are cut off from the past and swept away by the tide of new developments. Some will grow nostalgic and develop a fetish for neural networks, GANs, misshapen fingers, and vector glitches because we no longer have the time to process what these technologies make possible and impossible.
Des nuées agentiques / Agentic Mists
https://chatonsky.net/des-nuees-agentiques/
Against "A Necessary Critique of Fontcuberta's Algorithmic Photography," this text vindicates Fontcuberta's intuition while radicalizing it politically. Beyond the false debate over photo/AI distinctions lies urgent necessity: fragmenting monopolized latent spaces and reclaiming collective imagination against algorithmic homogenization through computational appropriation.

A paraitre
We no longer read. Because our memories are saturated. Because in this age of suspicion, where we are constantly wondering whether it was a machine or a human that wrote the text we are beginning to read, we are no longer able to access the text itself independently of this anthropocentric belief. When we learn to read a text while remaining indifferent to its provenance, then perhaps we will be able to read once again.

In a few years, perhaps only a few months, we will look back with nostalgia at LLMs, diffusion systems, and all those vector correlations that promised the automation of resemblance. We will remember the promise of nonsensical texts and images that mimicked meaning. When we finally deal with AIs that understand the world’s causal relationships, then AI will be of this Earth. It will no longer promise that other planet that looked so much like our own.

When discussing AI, we often speak of art—not of actual practices, but of the idea (constructively false) we hold of art.
Art is likely a metaphysical mediator, the 'final boss' of the singularity, the fantasy of a 'spontaneous generation' called creation, and the symptom of being dispossessed of something we never truly possessed.

A new article published in AOC:
What becomes of text in the age of AI and widespread suspicion, when we doubt its origin? How can we know who wrote a text and whether it is intended for us? Can we read a text that we know was generated by a machine and spend time reading it? What still resists within us when it comes to engaging with this type of text, even as it affects what writing and reading mean? Voir moins

https://chatonsky.net/vectorial-judgment/
