@LoganFive I remember being asked why my contracts were so short in an interview about 20 odd years ago.. my confused response was "I'm contracted to do a job, and once completed, I have finished, are you perhaps looking for someone to never finish?" For clarity the roles normally lasted around 6 months, weather dependent, seems before me they had contracted someone with lower standards of quality... For years ! 🤷

@FREEZE64@mastodon.world 10 years ago this would have been very cool.. in probably going to skip this as I feel I could get something very much the same for 40 quid from temu and load up and emulator on it for C64 and Amiga... 🫪 - edited due to amazing typos (congrats those who decrypted the real message).

@ethanschoonover I remember as a kid not being able to sleep due to the possibility of a nuclear war.. now, we're closer than ever.. we've learnt nothing. I really hope we are here in 12 months. :( what a depressing last couple of years.

@cstross@wandering.shop true, it's going to be very messy when people realise that the data centers are going to need energy more than the public, is the short term, who will be either turned off or charged extra to use the valuable resource. And at which point who will use the output or systems? No public, no market.. this does all feel a bit strange that everyone can see it, but is blindly ignoring the almost certain outcome.

@cstross@wandering.shop honestly this is a bit bonkers as to my understanding renewables are quicker to install and easier to setup/maintain once running, batteries added during the build out can balance the loading times... Yes fossil fuels can provide a basic output but end up being slow to build out and expensive to run long term..

#japan #tokyo So heading to Japan from Aberdeen in the middle of July. Never been before and although I'd like to explore it seems unlikely I'll have the time arriving late Monday, and having business meetings all through the week before leaving early Saturday morning.

What advice can you give someone who's never been? Some of the advice seems rather intense, should I get business cards printed and is a suit a must, not worn one in years doing my role in Europe.

Am I overthinking it?
